Last evening I decided to try another window manager in my Ultimate Edition, and after I had tried openbox, icewm and fluxbox, some of the most lightweight and growing popular wm's in linux,I chose Fluxbox because I found it much better and much more configurable by my taste.
Being a complete noob in FB,I'm wondering if someone else in this forum is using it.Of course any suggestion and tip are very good. <BREW>

Hello, While I have not personally used Fluxbox, I have heard of it before. And Before I found Ultimate Edition I was using Dream Linux, now that is basically gone and the people left are doing http://totalinux.org/ This is based on a gutted UBUNTU 10.4 and you can have FluxBox or someother window manager.

Just wandering if your still using FluxBox, and what do you think of it?

Yes,I'm still using Fluxbox, and I guess I'll always use it once I tried it ;) .I looked into that site and I see it very promissing and interresting for all the WM users/lovers/fans,and especially for all the old existing PC systems yet who can be brought to life again. It's kind of an Ubuntu minimal installation on wich you can build your own desired system with your favorite WMs and DEs.
Thank you very much for sharing it to us;to me at least. ;) :) <BREW>

Hello, Your welcome. I liked Dream linux but that distro seemed to make installing it difficult for noobs, insisting that you manually partition the drive before installing Dream. There was an auto install in time, but it had some problems along the way, the one version it was disabled. I got involved to help with the designing and wording (English spelling) of the package but was eventually unable to help as Dream would no longer install on any of my computers, old or new. Also they dropped gnome as the main desktop, so I quickly lost interest in Dream as I found Ultimate Edition at that time!

At any rate how do you install Fluxbox in Ultimate Edition and when you do, can you still have gnome installed and switch between them? Sorry I am a noob regarding WM's.

Have you tried "Afterstep"! Very cool ! as far as Xshell goes ! also dathem (if you havent already) try e17-"ecomorph" http://www.webupd8.org/2009/05/how-to-i ... 17-in.html, Or install thru Ultimatix(Ihave had issues with installing enlightenment thru ultimatix) when that installs go to synaptic and search 'ecomorph" to install it will uninstall e17 but they are one in the same ! and pay particular attention to the e 17 or ecomorph "modules" install fire and penguins and bling, to start, it takes some experimenting but it has a lot of potential,I would like to see Ultimate Edition incorparate some of these "potentials" from Afterstep and e17, try them and you will see what I mean !! 8-) stanka 8-) alrready knows about e17 and ecomorph, (as well as hell of a lot more than I !) He told me how to get things under way ! :ugeek: any way both are worth a look in to ! I think Afterstep is like XFCE on Steroids !!! and e17 is the steroids for X ! 8-)

Yes,of course! You just have to choose from them in the gdm login window>sessions.
Now I want to try to install E17-Ecomorph too in Ultimate Edition and see how it works.I got rid of Elive E17 Unstable because it became very "unstable",despite the fact it is based on Debian Lenny 5.03 Stable,it freezes all the time on my system and most of all the pppoe internet connection is very buggy with often interruptions and very low speed.
I really liked it but untill the final 2.0 stable version release I think I'll take a break.
Btw,here's an updated link:

Well, I installed the ecomorph 17 and following the instructions; I decided to install the version that allows the use of compiz. I restarted and was impressed with the speed of the system but I was soon disappointed by the lack of some things; no buttons on the right top of the windows, had to close by using the file menu. Windows don't move, stuck in place where they load, therefore no wobbly windows. No window animations from compiz??, though I did have the cube/atlantis and the view port compiz worked. I installed the fire, bling, etc modules but found no place to activate/ or use. In trying to use them I opened the system settings (control panel) and that window didn't have any way to close it. I eventually gave up and uninstalled the whole thing via synaptic and restarted. Now after booting the system monitor showed the processor running at 100% for about a min and has been running at or near 75% for 10 min at least and is unstable/unresponsive can't find the cursor anywhere on the screen. I have no idea of what it is doing, but it is doing a lot of it! LOL! If there is a way to screw it up I done did it, it seems.

I''ve read in one of the links I posted that E17-ecomorph kills sometimes the compiz in Gnome. You just need to reinstall compiz in Gnome DE again. :?

Hello, yes I seen that about the Compiz being killed by the ecomorph. But after removing ecomorph and restarting my system was not normal. I had to hit the control/alt, backspace, which brought back the cursor but the system monitor showed the processor running at 100% again for an extended period of time and then dropped down to about 75% for several hours! At that point I tried to shut down the computer and restart, got an black/screen error message stating that the clam virus database was being updated and a few other things before the computer restarted. Again after the computer booted up the processor was at 100% eventually dropping down to 75% for several hours. AT that point I decided not to try to fix whatever was going on and shut down again. This was a dual boot w/UBUNTU, so I rebooted into UBUNTU went to the partition/drive area for Ultimate Edition and copied the few piecies of data from that drive to the desktop of UBUNTU and then transfered that data to the computer I am using now as a backup. I am now re-installing Ultimate Edition 2.5 onto the problem computer. I may try the ecomorph without compiz to see what happens on the new install.
