ON/OFF Button

Postby deate » Sun Jan 25, 2009 7:50 am

Here's a thought for all you programmer types here...develop a desktop "ON/OFF" button (if it doesn't already exist) for the gamers and video guys that would turn off and on the "Extra Effects and Compiz" with one switch on the desktop...in other words...ready to game...click the switch...Through? Click your effects back on????
If it does exist: write a How-To for it!!!

This Gentoo link should get you started, create a launcher and use the script in the command section.

Several months back I read a post where someone had a script that would disable desktop effects for gaming and automatically restore them once the game was exited, of course I can't find that post now!

This post http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/96509133/m/910000125931 suggested running these 2 commands...
To turn off
Code: Select all
metacity --replace

To turn on
Code: Select all
compiz --replace
1st Box: Ultimate Edition 2.0 x64/ 1.8 x64
2nd Box: XP (dusty)
3rd Box: Stable Media box Ultimate Edition 1.8 x64 with XBMC
