Just wondering if you are going to add some packages into the next release to take advantage of the new hardware decoding Nvidia have added to the latest drivers and the mplayer compiles that use this new api?

As im still having to go back to crappy windows to watch hd video on my system!!

Cheers

If you want DH video, install XBMC.

Add these repo's
Open System/Administration/Software Sources
Enter your root password when asked
Make sure the first 4 boxes are checked
Select 3rd Party Software
Hit Add
Type

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ubuntu hardy main

Hit Add Source
Hit add again
type

deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ubuntu hardy main

Hit Add source
Make sure all the boxes are checked
close it
Open a terminal and type

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

follow the instructions and be a yes-man.
it will download & install codecs and fonts you need for all media.
when that's done
Open System/Administration/Synaptic Package Manager
let it load
Hit the reload button
When it's done reloading the repo's
click on the box and select "Mark for installation" for these packages

xbmc-common
xbmc-eventsclient-common
xbmc-plugins-supported
xbmc-skin-mediastream

Hit the apply button

If you need help setting up XBMC, post back.

New Hardware Decoding...alright.What's your System Specs and Players used? 1080P Videos play fine from the Hard Drive with even 5.1 DD or DTS Sound with Creative SB Audigy2 Pro Platinum out to a AVR on two old P4's with Nvidia 7300 and 7600GT respectively on the Great Ultimate Edition 2.0. :D

But for most nix users... Blu-ray Disk playback is probably a different story. ;)

Thanks leadfingers i will give that a go tonight, do i need to update my nvidia drivers before hand?

and to Niteflyte2, my specs on my shuttle, Athlon 3800+ 2.0ghz x2, 4gig ddr2 800mhz sata drive, nvidia 9400 gpu, i cant do 1080p on my laptop either that has a core 2 duo 2.0ghz with 2gig ram and a nvidia 8400

The files are x264 rips one of the matrix at 12gig it freezes every 10 seconds!!

Do you think i should buy a new cpu?

You might want to give VLC a try. It has a lot of detailed settings for audio and video. Or try installing different x264 codecs. Or maybe try transcoding the files with ffmpeg so that they will play.

hey guys thanks for you help before, ive read on loads of forums about un equal cpu thread utilization, people getting 70% and 25% usage, this is defo whats causing the issue son my system it happens on xbmc aswell although i am getting a good 1080p but my cpu fan is on all the time! and its loud! as my original post if the latest 180.xx drivers get added the restricted drivers yould you add a pre compiled vdpau patched build to the os? this would then allow xbmc to use vdpau as it uses mplayer?

cheers
