You are not BS'n anyone Theemahn. Honestly I dont expect you to help out others with inexperience's that most people have which only time can cure. Rather just focus on building a good OS.

Period. It just takes more time.
I have spent more than a decade in the computing world and have studied and worked with c for 6 years. And now i totally detest anyone from knowing that i know the language anymore. Maybe when im in my 40's or if i plan on going the Greg Kroah Hartman way.... until then i honestly dont c. I'll stick with python.

With your programming expertise and repomaster in the works i can expect another 4-5 years before you could probably have confidence in it. Couple all this with 'life' --- no arguments, no questions and no answers.

Pam, sorry to inform you I am at a playful section of repomaster trying to get it to fail. It amazes me almost every time. Getting it to hook into the service level was rough and destroyed multiple operating systems, causing me to restart at my last point before destruction. This means first re-installing Ultimate Edition X.X reloading it in checking code and letting it rip again to be greeted by destruction over and over again - those days are gone & behind me. There indeed are a ton of errors it currently does not address, now a minute of my time. Let me share some of the 800 lines of code I wrote this eve:
Let me give you some GUI code:
Code: Select all
target="ubuntu-tweak-version-here.deb"
deb="ubuntu-tweak-version-here.deb";
FOLDER=${target%%.deb}
FOLDER=$FOLDER'/'
action=$(yad --width 300 --entry --title "Repomaster" \
    --image=gnome-shutdown \
    --button="gtk-ok:0" --button="gtk-close:1" \
    --text "Choose action:" \
    --entry-text \
    "Build: $deb" "Clean: $FOLDER" "Autofix: $FOLDER" "Relax: $FOLDER" "Prepare: $FOLDER" "Publish: $FOLDER" "Scan: $FOLDER" "Exit")

drop that in your terminal ;)

Re: Build with me ;)

Now me, I am totally lost on this! 2nd time around trying to make this and missing folders again! Get compiz icon laying there in application menu almost identical to the one I made! All for the sake of Gnome! Guess I like Gnome but Gnome appears to not like me! So once again no control over window manager, theme looks like something unpolite to say! Except for programs they look decent. Just wish all could look as is supposed to! So appears I had about what TheeMahn had in his, but of course his was on Mate, which is probably more cooperative! Gstreamer-plugins-ugly say they were installed, but click on brasero and is a diferent story! Is looking like a battle I can't win! TheeMahn can win it though, I have confidence! Have heard Gnome 3.8 plans to go back to using shell extensions on classic, so might be nice. Kind of miss the added effect you can get with theme extensions. The effect I now have on current 3.5 with the sheer taskbar. How TheeMahn got that to cooperate is beyond me! I can't even get the normal theme to cooperate! What's worse is it is a Gnome theme, straight from gnome.org! Just has me all Gnomed out!This one is more stable as hasn't futzed with just trying to adjust compiz! Better off this way! Brings up a new question also? See I didn't have no folders, so I thought(Guess I am dumb!) that apt-get install gnome-documents gnome-boxes was going to give me those folders and the relations that belong with it! Okay, have a laugh on me!!! Studied hard these semesters and couldn't keep up with everything! Turns out this boxes deal(probably know, but I did not!) is like virtual box! Anyone try it? Has me wondering??? Will bet KDE isn't this tough! Just drives me nuts with all these separate parts! I don't even have a blessed clock on the upper taskbar in Gnome Classic! Is in the default, but not classic. Probably some la la land file with a strange name! Can't understand why Gnome wouldn't want their users to have what they need right away? Well, think am going to take it easy again, maybe will come up with an idea and give a shot tomorrow. Won't be able to get the real deal til is made, I suppose! Probably need 5 years just to study Gnome by itself! Lot tougher than when it was Gnome 2. Just not as spread out like I really like it!!! Ah Ah progress! Just like that Cierra I own now, just not natural and easy to deal with. Anyway if anyone can stop laughing maybe will say something! Have a great afternoon and will catch everyone tomorrow!

Of all the dumb things I do!!!! This one beats them all!!!! I mean, I stay up to date with most things, but of course wouldn't you know my beloved theme is just out of date for Gnome 3.6! Fortunately, finally figured it out and is back to make this wacked out system of mine looking least halfway decent!!! Gnome 3.6 can drive anyone nuts! Well probably by the time, Gnome 4 comes out, I will finally understand Gnome 3.6! So there's another laugh for you TheeMahn!!! You need it, deserve it big time as you work hard to make things great for everyone!!! You know I will probably be one of the first to download Ultimate 3.6! Least maybe with this thing I made I will finally learn how to take care of a system properly(least I can hope, right?) Here's a pic, will notice am back to the dark ages with no nice compiz interactions and no nice looking cursor! Is roughing it without the real deal!!(Ultimate) Still least I wound up learning something after all!!! Owe it all to you TheeMahn! You and your awesome forum that I am in high hopes lasts forever!!!

For compiz to work correctly you will require amd proprietary drivers.
On amd's website 12.6 is the last driver that is supported for radeon 3000. I'd suggest you download those for compiz.
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/l ... linux.aspx

For a workaround and a renderer you will require a compositor...
another good compositor apart from compiz that is less resource hungry but wont spin cubes is xcompmgr. Install it and run from command line..
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install xcompmgr

xcompmgr is stable and does not require fancy graphics hardware, heck even modern intel gpu's are extremely powerful. It wont be like compiz but
everything will render and look good..

If it doesn't work you could install metacity and then from within just run xcompmgr as a command:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install metacity

Now to enable metacity from terminal run this:
Code: Select all
metacity --replace

open another tab by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+T and run ...

Code: Select all
xcompmgr

Eeewh those ATI drivers give me the willies!!! Will have to give that a shot. Right now I can do the cube and the wobbly windows, just no pretty flames and that not a huge loss, but in a way miss it! Absolutely love the layers of coloring, although the "ole lady" thinks my idea of this being a beautiful theme is "off the wall, crazy!" Thought I had some kind of warning in for hardware, but apparently not! Probably tomorrow will give that a shot! Awesome to have the help of you finding that for me!!! Been busy a lot of the day, trying to figure if Gnome Boxes can be used like Vbox! No real articles and anything pointing to it, simply refers on the order of Qemu which already have that installed anyway! So no real gain with Gnome Boxes minus being nice and large on the screen! Now if I was able to install Office into it, would be sweet! Am going to have one of those ROPD classes and so far have no way to buffalo them with any Linux browser!!!! Sure could get Wine's browser up am sure, but Office 2010, never so lucky with it! Furthest I ever got to installation was on Ultimate which made it to the 3/4 mark. So far mine blows it off pretty quick! Better than some OS's in at least it does appear on screen(the installer). Expected a little more as I did put some things more centered on file format and transfer! Still would be grinning to get K9copy to work as it did in Ultimate! Don't think it is right, even though all the drivers(ubuntu-restricted) and the good, bad and ugly! You know what I mean! Drives you up a wall! Everything says "Yah, I'm installed!!!" Go to use it and is a different story! Tried copying old movie. Brasero copied right size but K9 put it at 1.2 and seem to cut out about 1/2 way and claiming it did the job! Screensaver is absolutely perfect as was in Ultimate. So there are some things that compare! Probably getting that famous Ubuntu cry(error message,nag) when I get to desktop only, since I didn't install the driver yet! Only time I get it, otherwise all doing pretty good! Will eventually find the key ingredient that is messing k9 up but will be a bit! Have been through a lot of sites for that!!!! Linux might be free, but with that stuff, love hiding it!!!! Anyway, really appreciate all your help! Like they always say "Two heads are better than one" Just so many things to check and do! Hoping am all loaded up and good to go by Thursday! Is a little smaller on the flash(iso only 2gigs) so boots and reacts fast. Will be perfect for school so am grinning on that. Java good to go also!!! Probably am a lot better off with this 3.5 kernel as that 3.7 is as you say a little too advanced for my aging system!!! Will be great when the cash comes in again, you know will be on the list to get!!!!

So far am not getting any where with ATI and fglrx! Unless was wrong version, but have tried apt-get synaptic and you name it. Installs and can't use any programs! Should have never messed with it! Not a major game player and this built in stuff isn't the best either! Calls for 12.6 but errors out on installation! Driver is just a pain! Least when installed fglrx in Ultimate it worked and all programs opened! Not this should have left it! Programs worked and just didn't have the extra effects with compiz which is all. Gnome won't let me get them anyway! Didn't want the Unity stuff in there as is pretty ugly that Ubuntu desktop. Also when I got attacked with it in Ultimate 3.4, gave me a terrible taste for it! Is nasty when a desktop you don't want just takes over on you!!! That is what happened then, so didn't want that at all!!! Might just have to go back to the Vesa driver least all programs worked!!! Next computer I build will not have built in card and probably not ATI graphics either. Too many headaches over the years with them! Bunch of baloney with their garbage! Been going through that since first started using computers. Nvidea not as severe will probably do them again next time!! For now is uninstall for the 5th time!!!! Either version is correct incorrect or just plain doesn't work! Nothing in synaptic works either!!!! ATI is just wacked out on their own little planet somewhere!!! Generic driver Vesa will just have to do for me! That is if I can ever get back to it? What a hassle, should have left well enough alone, least things worked! Don't blame anyone appreciate all the help, is just ATI is the biggest pain have ever seen! Very very rarely do I ever get this built in junk to function on the money!
