Motherboards with Nvidia 7050PV chipsets -issues

Postby DaddyX3 » Thu Oct 18, 2007 2:13 pm

Motherboards with Nvidia 7050PV chipsets can be used with Ultimate, with some minor tweaking of the xorg.conf
Installing the ISO disk will install X server with a default of "nvidia" or "nv" upon recognizing your graphics chipset as Nvidia, however, this will cause a very ugly screen to pop up! Saying something like, "X server is not set up correctly or is not found, please install X" bla-bla-bla. What must be done is to change the xorg.conf file. You can type: "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" (with no quotation marks) and go in to pretty decent GUI configuration tool (no mouse) and when it asks you if you want it to detect graphics say no and pick "vesa" from the list. continue on through the setup, usually just picking the default selections made by the program will get you through ok. Click Ok to save to xorg.conf file, and restart X by either typing in the command prompt: shutdown -r now (which reboots machine) or by typing: startx or startX (can't remember if it was uppercase X or lower case x)
---Obviously--- I'm a 'noob' trying to help out another 'noob' serching on google about this problem or asking somebody else in this forum with more knoledge on the subject is the best choice! But maybe atleast this will give you the heads up! :D

EDIT: 1.6 users - just use "boot in safe graphics mode" form the DVD install screen and it will get you going :D

It works great with one small problem. The CPU fan like to run full blast at all times.

Gigabyte i-DNA GA-K8N51GMF-9

Postby anarchist » Sun Feb 17, 2008 11:20 am

NVIDIA® GeForce™ 6100 and NVIDIA nForce™ 430
Super I/O: Winbond W83627 chip
Integrated peripherals
1. VIA VT 6307 IEEE1394 controller
2. CICADA VSC 8201 Gigabit LAN PHY chip
3. Realtek ALC880 Audio Codec

http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=1939

Works great aside from some occasional freezing of video and stuttering sound in Starcraft in Wine 0.9.51. Not sure if it is a wine problem or the board as I just installed this as a replacement for a bad board a few weeks ago. It is still playable just irritating, and when I get some time I will figure it out..maybe..LOL. No special drivers installed, just the nvidia one for my XFX GeForce 6600 LE PCI-E 16x 256 MB. This board has onboard nvidia 6100 GPU but I am using my own video card.
My custom built system (for now):
Mainboard: Gigabyte i-DNA GA-K8N51GMF-9
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+
Ram: 2 GB Dual Channel DDR 400
Video: XFX GeForce 6600 LE PCI-E 16x 256 MB
Hard Disks: 1 X Seagate Sata II 320GB, 2 X Seagate 120GB Sata I
18X DVD Burner
