I have only installed Natty twice, once on an Intel and once on Nvidia, but I was using the gnome WM, not UNITY. Don't know if that makes any difference??? Which WM are you using? dathem

That's a pretty standard pop up. I've seen it with my NVIDIA card and my ATI card. Both have proprietary drivers that need to be installed to get the full benefit of the card. NVIDIA support seems a lot better in linux generally, but my ATI works fine in Ultimate Edition 2.6.1.

These days , gpu support has been built in to the kernel.

what your seeing is the fact the drivers were installed, but not needed. The kernel offered newer then the drivers downloaded and installed.

no worries there

good point guru, but re-reading the window (thanks D!) I seem to recall I get that after I install the driver and before I restart the PC. I suspect that restarting the computer will load the driver (if needed)

Remember at the Log In you can select UBUNTU CLASSIC (gnome), you don't have to stick with UNITY, I sure will not use UNITY. dathem

Unity desktop compared to the standard 2.8 GAMERS desktop=to me just a big dumbed down clunky version of it...not only that but for some reason the freaken thing will only boot up on my Natty Narwal upgrade (6hrs on a 14MB/sec line) of Ultimate Edition 2.8 Gamers DvD IF I LOG IN AS ROOT...and we know how wussie most linux users are about such things (myself somewhat included). So maybe they are trying to have us voluntarily give up our freedoms like doze and Mac has, but I don't know it's my guess at why this strange happenstance occurs...try it yourself, if you upgrade your buttkicking 2.8 edition to 11.04 to make it even more buttkicking, you will find the Unity desktop is only available to you if you go in with safe video options and change it to a root login with the standard (unity) desktop. Very odd stuff hey 2.8 devs! FISHY ALSO IF YOU ASK ME, but maybe I'm just suspicious by nature.

Anyways, just thought I would let you all know, that you can actually do the upgrade with no problems, theres most likely even a way to get your ultimatrix back (maybe just reinstall the bloomin thing), but you WILL lose it on upgrade (don't need it anyways all is available through installer and playonlinux), it's basically the only thing I've lost, and I really don't miss it because it's in my opinion redundant to the package installer (unlike playonlinux and winetricks).

DON'T FORGET THOUGH PLEASE!!! DO NOT DO YOUR UPGRADE UNLESS YOU DON'T NEED YOUR COMPUTERS FOR THE NEXT 6 HOURS< THIS IS ABOUT THE AVERAGE< AND MY RIG IS FAIRLY FAST WITH A NICE LINE...SO DO IT AT NIGHT AND WAKE UP TO A NEW UNITY (CRAP IN MY OPINION CURRENTLY) DESKTOP IF YOU WOULD LIKE...REALLY I JUST LIKE BEING CURRENT AND HAVING THE NICEST NEW CORE FOR MY UBUNTU, that's mainly why I did it, I AM SO UTTERLY SATISFIED WITH THE GNOME DESKTOP (or whatever it is) on my 2.8 Gamers, that to "upgrade" it to unity (and keep it on) would be like a huge step backwards to me!!! Have a good day all please! WATCH THAT NEW SECURITY RISK WITH THE 11.04 UPGRADE AND IT WANTING YOU TO LOG IN AS ROOT ALL THE TIME. PEACE OUT!
