data transfer ext4 hdd to usb

Postby razy60 » Sun May 02, 2010 1:31 pm

Hi, Has any one found a solution to the problem of data transfer from the hdd to a usb. essentialy since ext4 came in data transfer from partition to partition or hdd to hdd on board drives that is, is quick, however whenever i try and transfer data particularily to usb devices and files in excess of say 250MB it is so slow it is painful to watch when it eventualy finishes the download bar sits for ages, sometimes not going at all?, This was not an issue with ext3, it is not an issue with the hard ware as it was fine before ext4. It is fine on 4 other operating systems on the same PC, this also happens on my new laptop and happened on my old laptop, any one with an answer? i have been googling but not found a reasonable answer apart from that is how it is until it is fixed! :!:

Nothing specific to the ext4 file system but for me krusader seems to get better transfer rates than nautilus.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install krusader

I don't even know what to make of that. Perhaps you could explain that a little better. :?

Hey i think it depend on hdd type and what type of data you transfer.
the speed is depend on hdd RPM so use always 7200 or 10,000 RPM hdd.
and if you transfer one big file then it transfer ratio is so high bit if you transfer so many file then transfer speed will be slow.
