Sound Output Issue (Guitar) [Solved]

Postby saiyuki » Thu Dec 03, 2009 4:37 pm

Hi. I used to have an Audigy 2 sound card installed many moons ago which had 2 mic inputs. I could plug my guitar into one of them and have the sound come through the headphones as well as normal music. This was because my wife can't hear the TV when i play through my normal amp  I must add that i did this through windows and never through Linux.

So now i have a CL X-Fi sound card and i'd like to have the same setup. In the sound properties i have the CA0106 Soundblaster installed by default. I have it set for 7:1 output+analog Stereo input. I can see the guitar signal on the display working ok (doesn't matter if i select Mic or Input, both the same results), but i have no sound either through the speakers or the headphones. Normal music is working fine.

I've fiddled for some time but cannot get this working. has anyone any ideas?

Regards

Hello saiyuki .

First you need to install oss packages the card work with the oss and Mixer.
and if I have understand right the situation then you work on the Alsa+Pulse Audio.
BTW- you can look for the packages to support Guitar under synaptic.

Thanks. I installed only the Gnome ALSA mixer and increased the Mic Level. All working great now.

Just FYI. Windows 7 has a problem with mic output. When i tried it, i was getting a 1/2 - 1 second delay, and checking on the web shows that several people have had the same problem using different sound cards.
