1 - NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
2 - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

Are these the only certified cards for 3D accelerated gaming on ubuntu? Can I play Burnout Paradise with either on Ubuntu?
AMD (2.8G); Gigabyte MA770-UD3; 2GB DDR3
210GB HDD (NTFS <WinXP> - Gaming) + 40GB HDD (EXT4 <UbuntuUE> - Programming)
ATI HD4670 1GB
There's a first time for everything

By definition most debian base distro's will support gpu acceleration. The kicker is the gpu's won't have it enabled out of the box with Linux, because of closed source drivers(including Nvidia). In most cases it depends on the gpu,and all you have to do is install the right driver i.e. use jockey. If your gpu is supported then jockey will list an driver for acceleration.

Both of these should work just fine. The 9600 being the better of the two....but don't quote me.Research it.As for playing the game..well if I right then that's a non native game(M$ game),so you would have to try playing it in wine.Wine does not have 3d acceleration persay,but....I have played many 3d games in wine with little,or no problems. The best thing to do is check out wine's database, and see if that game is working correct.

Here is the answer to your question such that the features you specified it also requires some additional information such as

1.Type of work to be carried out.
2.Budget limit.
3.Brand you prefer.

Select from the avaliable varieties that suits you the best.
