Firefox browser issue with Ultimate Edition 4.2

Postby John Spera » Sat Dec 13, 2014 3:02 pm

Hi,

Today I am getting messages to "Activate Adobe Flash" when ever I request an audio or vidio link. The references I research to resolve that issue do not seem to apply to me.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

Thanks,
John

since FF 33 was working just fine. ..

it's FF 34 that is saying that Flash 11.2.202.424 is out-of-date.

the strange thing is that FF is blocking sites by saying that flash is unsupported,
and there is no option to re-activate it.

however - in most cases - it's actually *not* even needed - it's advert - that is asking for it. ..
- so - click on the X in the RHS corner - to remove it - for that page.

EDIT:
if you get the file: install-flash-player -11.tar.gz,
& extract the file "libflashplayer.so"
- copy that file to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
back up the old *.so file to /plugins/bak

exit FF first, then copy the file, as stated.
- you will need to copy the file as SU ..

then goto:
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html

check that your flash is working, as per step 5.

Thanks for these insights.

I plan to try that "Pepper Flash" plugin.

Hi,

The firefox browser does not. I switched my browser to Chrom and everything is working again.

There seems to be a resistance to Linux desktops in some areas of the industry. The proprietary interests of many resent open source intrusions.

In many ways I would like to see more mutual respect for different approaches and focuses.

Thanks to ever one here for you assistance with this matter.

Firefox browser issue with Ultimate Edition 4.2.3x64

Postby TexasMike » Mon Jan 04, 2016 1:41 pm

My OS: Ultimate Edition-4.2.3x64 (Ubuntu 14.04.03 LTS).

The Problem: When clicking on a Link to any website from within an Email (Evolution 3.10.4) or any source other than within a webpage within the browser, Firefox (ver. 43.0 Mozilla Firefox for Ultimate Edition) always sends me to “http://ultimateedition.info/”. I can copy/paste the same link into the browser's address bar and, of course, it works perfectly.
I tried “sudo apt-get purge firefox” to remove the installed version and removed the “.mozilla” folder from my home folder, then used Synaptic Package Manager to re-install Firefox. The results did not change.

Searching the Ultimate Edition Forums I find there have been Firefox issues since Ultimate Edition 4.2-x64 was released.

This issue has also been present in other recent Ultimate Edition releases, for me – sometimes it loads both http://ultimateedition.info and the Forum page http://forumubuntusoftware.info .

FYI: Chrome browser works fine if I install it. However, I want FF to work as it should. Any ideas or suggestions?

It seems this has been a “known problem” since December of 2014, as shown in this Post:

Texas Mike it sounds to me like you are having a url-handler issue. There is plenty of information, regardless of desktop you are running, online with instructions to repair. ;) John Spera, although there are plenty fixes for your adobe error online, what exactly have you done to rectify? I wouldnt advise another browser without atleast a good amount of troubleshooting. Don't give up so easy, Linux is a learning experience and working through issues can prove valuable and be quite fun. I am currently running firefox 43 (I'm hoping you meant 43 and 34, since 34 is over a yr old I believe) with adobe flashplugin (even HTML 5 *) without any issue. Qupzilla also works very well 11.2.202.599 8-) My personal opinion on Chrome, without telling all how i really feel, :) I would never advised unless you have no memory constraints/preferences. I can tell you that I would always recommend Opera and pepperflash which is faster, great handler support for torrents etc. and by far has the best Speed Dial in the game of browsers and the best experience. ;) One more thing we all need to realize, and I see it time and time again, Ultimate Edition is based on Ubuntu. Unless you are having repository issues with a ppa like Mozilla Team for Firefox, you can just consider the issue to be with Ubuntu and the version you are running. This will help in future troubleshooting as you will be more accurate when describing your issues and searching online. Ex. Ubuntu 14.04 Firefox 34 activate adobe flash 11.2.
