It is released :)
The Mahn wrote about it on the 1st page of this topic, inside there is an official link to download, details, answer to your questions I guess :P, and md5sum. AFAIK, for now it's for forum readers - no link in main page yet. I guess it'll change soon.

Enjoy :)

Nobody is correct. Ultimate Edition is, typically, released first to Registered Users of the Forum prior to it being released in the wild. It's one of the benefits of being a Registered User.

Well, that and the free beer and dancing girls.

Furthermore, yes, the file size/torrent is correct at ~1.3GB. Big things really can come in small packages. And lastly, yes, Ultimate Edition 1.8 64-bit is final. TheeMahn does not to my knowledge "DO" alpha/beta releases. He's a bit of a bitch, really, about releasing only polished, cocked-locked-and-ready-to-rock Ultimate Editions.

You are really close to being correct, I have in the past released a beta based on KDE4, KDE4 has approx a year before it even goes stable, I was asked many times to create one and you know me I am here for the people, I hated to even release it, pretty but tons of problems. I try to not take credit for making it ;) You are right I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to these matters. I try & maintain an attitude you will get it when I am done... I do not have a deadline and this allows for me to create "the best" O/S I can. I know this upsets the impatient, but better late & right, then sooner & wrong.

The 32 bit edition once done and will be a long time from now will be posted simontaneously to the forum & a page created for both.

I want to let everyone know, and since this is a frequented thread, feel is probably the best place to post it... I am fully aware there is about 5000 posts I have not seen and would love to help you all, but will be "tied" up building 1.8 32 bit, I will not have time to visit the forum. I need to get the nose to the grindstone, thanks for all of you positive output. I will work to make the 32 bit edition just as good or better. This will not happen overnight, repo has to be fixed for 32 bit priority #1, then the building begins, I have built just 1 and total failure, the repo has to be in place first, no easy task I assure you. Hopefully I can find time after that to teach cab package management in nix and make it a problem of the past. He is a smart fella. This is a huge chore and a heavy responsibility. Hopefully see you soon with good news...

Hello, I installed 1.8 on my machine (AMD 3800+ 2GB, ATI 800Pro) and all went great, video works great (cube, windows with efects) all EXCELLENT.

I opened virtualbox and tried to create a virtual machine, and it told me I need to install the virtualbox module, I went to the package manager under Administration menu, searched for virtualbox and checked the virtualbox module that said generic (I don't know if this generic was the mistake), after downloading and installing I needed to reboot and now I can boot.

I 'm attaching a file with a screenshot of the error I get (BUG: soft lockup, - CPU#0 stuck for 11s! [busybox: 11333])
booterror.jpg
boot error screen

Any idea? can I fix it or should I reinstall?

Thanks!!
Other than that.....EXCELLENT product.

Hi digolaz,

You will need to uninstall the Virtualbox that comes in the Unbuntu repositories and install the latest binary package from this link Virtualbox 1.6 binaries. I have Vbox 1.6 running like a dream on both of my UU 1.8 boxes. If you have any other questions about install or getting anything to work with Vbox please repost and I would be happy to help. :)

I am running it, I have a list of things I have to fix (for 32 bit) I write on a literal notepad as I build... this list has 12 items... Some simple others will be trying. I have time now and only reason I logged into the forum, needed my black-white theme, the theme is in... just not icons. I am downloading prior releases I lost a ton of my prior work, if I have to retrieve it from the ISO so be it.. to eliminate the 12, funny I am now downloading from my mirrors to get back what I made. The road to progression. Enjoy, I do not... ;) Sorry paul, you have a Phat line ;)

Edit: 05/09/08 all below is fixed minus #3 & #12 ;), to no fault of my own.

Note it is 32 bit I have 4 GB of memory (a 32 bit O/S will not use more then 3.2 gb) ... Even though it looks like the 64 bit counterpart, I had to install hardy 32 bit just to make progression(and hated every minute of it), @ 1.1 GB now this will change. Funny took longer to install hardy at 700 mb then then 1.8 @ 1.1 gb, go figure...

What probably totally killed the situation for me I could not listen to music from hardy after installed not to mention drop in envyng just to get things to "work" all is there in Ultimate Edition 1.8 32 bit, but not done... 12 days of Christmas, 12 things to fix.... ;)

I suppose an explanation is in order & have not even informed admin:
1. update isolinx.cfg (no big deal)
2. USplash (i hope to resolve in short order)
3. software... this will be heavy
4. Sound, probably fixed already have not burnt the next build yet.
5. Colors, I am sure this is fixed and have not burnt it.
6. GDM - I look for this to ba a big hammer on my list...
7. black-white theme, why I am here when I said w/o not do so... hopefully addressed...
8. Usplash initrd... this is easy once #2 is addressed
9. Scrap examples from disk this is hopefully done
10. Set homepage, this is a real chore used to be simple that jar up the hompage now...
11. Add upgrade Icon (w/o a doubt done)
12. Add "official repos" - this will be the last thing I do. And why x64 got the hammer, for those that have read understand.

No wonder I go through a 100 blank dvds in a month, I can tell you this successful build of what will be Ultimate Edition 1.8 32 bit caused me to toss hardy to the trash ;)

I try and make those that are easy a thing of the past... And work in the harder,.. see success And hit the harder. I apologize I did not make it to #12 for those that run 64 bit, but will do so for 32 bit... That is all that matters to most. I struggled to make your 64 bit, what it is. You were at 12. NTL apologize for the drunks here, ripped it from the disk & you have what you have.

Take your time Big Guy...I know the "32 bit gang" here are chomping at the bit to get their new OS, but they'll be glad to get it when it's "right" just as the "64 bit gang" was, all this will come full circle with time :) Let us know if/when there's something we can do ;)
