Anyone ever build onto a Puppy??? Would love to know how to open one and build onto, if anyone has a clue? Been curious on these smaller distros as might be able to cut the size down to one of my monster OS's! Current 13.10 totalled 3.9gb. Would sure love to hit around 2 and have all the goodies! Was an idea of mine too, to use Mate with it! Great job Xan!

I'm not sure what you mean.

This

weighs in at under 350mb. This is only so "huge" because azenis is in the trash and Dark Glass is crazy heavy. Even the wallpaper is heavy.

The trick with Puppy, as should it be whenever building whatever is taking it in baby steps and testing everything as you go. You need to get the dependencies to build and then strip it. The idea is to have something that can run on anything, at least for me. You can go other directions though.

As far as your weight, you need to test this weight. Nautilus for example will give a higher estimate than dolphin. It is the same bytes of course, but when it comes to GB the numbers will differ.

Something to keep in mind when dealing with the 4GB Barrier

As far as "opening up and building onto"

Uhhhhh

Idk

Puppy comes in many flavors. There is a common thread of Joe and Rox but the base can vary. Since you are most comfortable with Ubuntu I would probably start there.

I really like the 5.2.60 Puppy Precise

And now, the completely true facts, as told by an anonymous man hiding behind a screen name:

Sort of looking for info like "Build with me" was. Would like to take the image apart and adds some things then put back together. Had the similar idea say with Mate, XFCE and LXDE for desktops then some real nice utilities, say the best I use on my OS and just have a nice little OS for running on smaller processors. My OS on the dual core laptop of mine is probably not a great idea! Sure it still works great on there, but can tell is a strain as is more set for the modern 4x and above! The smaller types like Puppy can deal with older devices easier, so yes want to learn how to build one also! As there are still smaller processors out here (dual cores) would be quite beneficial. Thanks very much in advance.
