Everything is done in 3 stages, by 4 programs.
The Programs
  • tmosb - The main program (control flow)
  • minimal - builds a minimal ISO will boot to a terminal also used for caching operations
  • internal - Adds desktop environments and customizations.
  • tmgrub - refreshes the kernel and builds initramfs
The Stages
  • Stage 1 - Debootstrap, these files are tared at the end of operation and shoved to cache.
  • Stage 2 - Minimal ISO is created and shoved to cache to accelerate any future builds, via architecture and dist.
  • Stage 3 - Desktop construction, customization and building final ISO.
At the begin and ending of each stage cache is pushed and pulled depending on the next process involved, for example a cached build:

After this operation, 5860 kB of additional disk space will be used.

Note the Need to get 0 B/1738 kB of archives.
The first time a distro is built it downloads all packages involved, which does suck. After the stage completes it rsyncs the /var/cache/apt to .cache/$CODEBASE/$ARCH/apt/ folder to be synced back should you build a disto of similaraity ie Ultimate Edition 4.0, 4.1. I have built every Ultimate Edition distro at one time or another and my cache was 12GB. So I wrote a function to maintain the cache as well:
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/b# tmosb --clearcache
TheeMahn O/S Builder (tmosb) 1.7.6, 02/10/2014
GNU tmosb (TheeMahn O/S Builder) home page: <http://ultimateedition.info/>.
E-mail bug reports to: <[email protected]>.
Be sure to include the word tmosb somewhere in the Subject: field.

Usage clearcache;
tmosb -C <REQUIREMENT>
Clears cache by disgression.
<REQUIREMENT> is as follows:
<debootstrap> clears debootstrap image(s).
<minimal> clears minimal ISO image(s)
<apt> clears apt's cache
<all> clears the entire cache system.
Example: tmosb --clearcache debootstrap
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/b#

Ok we don't seem to have a 3.9 thread, this is the closest. I've done some digging but can't find the answer. I installed 3.9, works fine EXCEPT in MATE I don't have the top window bar with controls in any apps or in the main desktop. I am sure there is an easy fix, but I can't find it.

Installing Ultimate Edition 4.3 from XFCE environment:
43.png

432.png

Built with the following command:
tmosb --build ultimate-edition-4.3-x64 xfce gnome kde unity lxde

Only negitive I see that it totally forgot or I forgot to write in, there is no mdadm. No raid support so I am 12GB less in space, at least until I reboot ;)

I built and uploaded Ultimate Edition 3.9 x86 to the test server the other day. It was built entirely using tmosb. I have not had the time to link it out.

  • ultimate-edition-os-builder-1.7.5_all/bin/usplash-builder
  • ultimate-edition-os-builder-1.7.5_all/bin/tmosb

I have previously explained the functions of:
  • ultimate-edition-os-builder-1.7.5_all/usr/share/ultimate_edition/tmgrub
  • ultimate-edition-os-builder-1.7.5_all/usr/share/ultimate_edition/internal
  • ultimate-edition-os-builder-1.7.5_all/bin/tmosb

The 2 new tools:
  • ultimate-edition-os-builder-1.7.5_all/bin/uecorebuilder
  • ultimate-edition-os-builder-1.7.5_all/bin/usplash-builder

uecorebuilder: Builds corefiles (base of every release). I used to do this by hand when building every operating system.
usplash-builder: Creates ubiquity splash version specific, processes the donors names and insets them into the splash & builds the deb.

I wrote the usplash builder in 2013. At the time it was very generic, I have since enhanced it. It has never been released to the public, so I included it in this package.
What about the other 2, you did not explain them?
  • ultimate-edition-os-builder-1.7.5_all/usr/share/ultimate_edition/preinst
  • ultimate-edition-os-builder-1.7.5_all/usr/share/ultimate_edition/postint

These 2 files are injected into the deb prior to building them.

Didn't want you guys thinking I have been screwing around ;) The donors list is currently not up to date, but will eventually be pulled from the web:

Sorry, I had to copy/paste this in. I want you to know where all this is going....

BBOSAK2143 wrote:Great to hear is so close! Have no doubt will be flawless in no time flat! From fiddling with 3 of these builds have done, will say is a miracle to bring it that far in one shot! Remember folks, not every piece that goes into these systems is absolutely perfect. Flaws in code once in a while as have seen them myself! Takes time to weed these flaws out so can work great! Still can never thank you enough for getting me into this building OS's! Will never be as great as you are at it, but will always keep pushing to get there! Great work and is awesome to see the great results you get all the time! 5 OS's a year folks!!!! Take a look anywhere, you will never see that! This is solid out and out proof how hard TheeMahn works to get things perfect for us! There is no one that works harder or better! Always the best wishes and hope will be privy to more pics and have appreciated all so far!!!

Don't cut yourself short. You will be better then me, when I am done. All you need is the right tools at your dispensary. I am going to provide those.

I want you to try and think of things from my perspective, I know it will be hard as you have not seen the tools in action. Let us first start by thinking and a fairly accurate statement by me saying so. Engaging repostorm as a service rectifies all inbound errors from all debs the repostorm --service on --autofix sets this in action , I do have options as far as builds to say 3 attempts in building write the error(s) off as non fixable at least not yet at the software level. This does greatly increase the amount of time that persay sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop would take, because before those debs even install repostorm first checks them for errors, no errors less time, however I would say at least 90% of what would be drug down would have an error or warning. It would extract fix and rebuld each of those debs an increase in time building an OS.

I do have the abilty while that is transpiring to fix themes, repairtheme while it is far from par shows where I was going with it. I have not taken the time to write a gtk app, tk, just to grab error(s) and auto fix them as well. Another thing I did not document. You will understand when you see Ultimate Edition 4.0 it has a perfect theme, and I am not saying that because I think it is pretty. I am telling you that because it has 0 gtk errors, themerepair tool fixed them. Keysnatcher? Once everything gets into place flawless. Patience is a virtue.

I am currently working though a non-interactive export to allow all operating systems to build with 0 interaction from the end user perspective. I don't want you to have to say yes install grub, because grub does not need to search for your hard disks from a chroot environment, I'm going to answer those questions for you as well, by the same token flip it back on if you want to install commercial software etc. The end results when all tools are used in conjunction will be a flawless O/S with next to zero interaction by the end user. I want to animatly make things very clear, we are not building from a ubuntu-desktop cd we will be building everything from the ground up. Repostorm will not fix current errors on your system, I should say currently, it will fix them as they come in. What is the best place to install repostorm? From the ground. I wish I could start with absolute 0 not even a deboot strap and work it's way up. It is the nastiest tool to ever walk the net when it touches the net, I can 100% assure you.

Many, many doors open up within the thought process I have foresaid, repostorm works fine in Debian. I have not ported it, but I am fairly certain with very lttle effort suse, redhat the list goes on. Bash is almost universally accepted when it comes to languages. Why my lang of choice?

The Lintian developers (yes I showed them some of my code) wanted me to push it to scan source code and fix everything before it ever comes to your computer... I want you and every linux user to take off your rose colored glasses and see this: If I wanted to, I could completely dominate the entire Linux community. What O/S would you want to use? Linux mint, the list goes on, or a flawless operating system. And I do mean flawless, when you remove the element of man made mistakes what you have is prefection. Computers don't make mistakes, people do right? Repostorm will if I make an error in writing it fix itself. I believe the initial statement should be, better then I.

Postby TheeMahn » Tue Feb 25, 2014 6:47 am

By request a new switch enters the mix:
Code: Select all
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/Videos# tmosb help

DEBUGGING Number of switches passed: 1
Switch 1: help
TheeMahn O/S Builder (tmosb) 1.7.8, 02/25/2014
GNU tmosb (TheeMahn O/S Builder) home page: <http://ultimateedition.info/>.
E-mail bug reports to: <[email protected]>.
Be sure to include the word tmosb somewhere in the Subject: field.
Usage: tmosb -<-COMMAND> [OPTION]
Mandatory arguments to long options are identical for short options.
possible commands...

-b --build builds Operating System(s)
-C --clearcache clears system cache
-e --extract extract ISO(s)
-h --help this help message
-p --pull pulls all source code to current folder
-t --test test ISO in virtual machine and exit
-u --upgrade distro upgrades existing Operating System(s)
-v --version dump version info and exit

tmosb --help [COMMAND] for further information.
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/Videos#

Hmm, pull:
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/Videos# tmosb --help pull
DEBUGGING Number of switches passed: 2
Switch 1: --help
Switch 2: pull
TheeMahn O/S Builder (tmosb) 1.7.8, 02/25/2014
GNU tmosb (TheeMahn O/S Builder) home page: <http://ultimateedition.info/>.
E-mail bug reports to: <[email protected]>.
Be sure to include the word tmosb somewhere in the Subject: field.

Usage pull;
tmosb -p [option]
Pulls all source code to current folder to allow you to modify it.
The [option] switch allows you to overwrite if existant source code.
Example: tmosb --pull --overwrite
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/Videos# ls
internal tmgrub tmosb uecorebuilder ultimate-edition-4.0-x64-lite ultimate-edition-4.0-x64-lite.iso usplash-builder
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/Videos# rm -R *
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/Videos# tmosb --pull
DEBUGGING Number of switches passed: 1
Switch 1: --pull
TheeMahn O/S Builder (tmosb) 1.7.8, 02/25/2014
GNU tmosb (TheeMahn O/S Builder) home page: <http://ultimateedition.info/>.
E-mail bug reports to: <[email protected]>.
Be sure to include the word tmosb somewhere in the Subject: field.
DEBUGGING PULLSOURCE function: 1:--pull 2: 3:
Copying source tmosb to /home/theemahn/Videos: Success.
Copying source uecorebuilder to /home/theemahn/Videos: Success.
Copying source usplash-builder to /home/theemahn/Videos: Success.
Copying source tmgrub to /home/theemahn/Videos: Success.
Copying source internal to /home/theemahn/Videos: Success.
Feel free to modify the source in your favorite editor
Example: gedit internal
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/Videos# ls
internal tmgrub tmosb uecorebuilder usplash-builder
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/Videos#

Now let's say you have modified the "internal" portion of the program this is the program that will be executed when called in the chroot.

Another call to pull is smart enough to know that you already have pulled the source and will not overwrite your work w/o explicitly invoking the --overwrite switch...
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/Videos# tmosb --pull
DEBUGGING Number of switches passed: 1
Switch 1: --pull
TheeMahn O/S Builder (tmosb) 1.7.8, 02/25/2014
GNU tmosb (TheeMahn O/S Builder) home page: <http://ultimateedition.info/>.
E-mail bug reports to: <[email protected]>.
Be sure to include the word tmosb somewhere in the Subject: field.
DEBUGGING PULLSOURCE function: 1:--pull 2: 3:
ERROR: tmosb exists, not overwriting.
Use: tmosb --pull --overwrite if you are sure.
ERROR: uecorebuilder exists, not overwriting.
Use: tmosb --pull --overwrite if you are sure.
ERROR: usplash-builder exists, not overwriting.
Use: tmosb --pull --overwrite if you are sure.
ERROR: tmgrub exists, not overwriting.
Use: tmosb --pull --overwrite if you are sure.
ERROR: internal exists, not overwriting.
Use: tmosb --pull --overwrite if you are sure.
Feel free to modify the source in your favorite editor
Example: gedit internal
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/Videos#

By the same token let's say you have screwed up in modifying the contents, you can revert back to the original source:
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/Videos# tmosb --pull --overwrite
DEBUGGING Number of switches passed: 2
Switch 1: --pull
Switch 2: --overwrite
TheeMahn O/S Builder (tmosb) 1.7.8, 02/25/2014
GNU tmosb (TheeMahn O/S Builder) home page: <http://ultimateedition.info/>.
E-mail bug reports to: <[email protected]>.
Be sure to include the word tmosb somewhere in the Subject: field.
DEBUGGING PULLSOURCE function: 1:--pull 2:--overwrite 3:
Copying source tmosb to /home/theemahn/Videos: Success.
Copying source uecorebuilder to /home/theemahn/Videos: Success.
Copying source usplash-builder to /home/theemahn/Videos: Success.
Copying source tmgrub to /home/theemahn/Videos: Success.
Copying source internal to /home/theemahn/Videos: Success.
Feel free to modify the source in your favorite editor
Example: gedit internal
root@JackHammer:/home/theemahn/Videos#

The "DEBUGGING" will go away prior to release. This feature has been asked of me more then once & the tool has not even been released. We have many O/S builders on board & others that don't even work here really intrested in this tool. I am hoping to replace the work of such applications as reconstructor , remastersys just to name a few. Even if the software gets larger, easily now modified to encompass any new features should they be added I love arrays, most programmers avoid them they are difficult to get your head around :)
Code: Select all
# Try to think of the below as a basic database where the values coincide
# Example when it detects 14.10 the arrays will be cycled through looking for
# the value of 14.10 as the UEARRAY would be value[16] the value of
# [16] of DISTARRAY would be Trusty Tahr
DISTSSUPPORTED=11
declare -a ISLTS=("3.4" "3.5" "4.2" "4.3" "12.04" "14.04");

declare -a APPSRC=('/bin' '/bin' '/bin' '/usr/share/ultimate_edition' '/usr/share/ultimate_edition');

I have worked on the switches as well it now passes all individual switches to each function:

Keep saying "You need to be a Professor or least visit these colleges!" You have such a brilliant mind and would be great to get some of that "know how" into those that are willing to learn! I know if you would have been at my school when I was going, there is no doubt I would have tried to bring a tape recorder and take great notes, plus stay after to ask more questions! I confess, Arrays are still hazy to me! When I was in java, did fair but a genius by no means. At points my instructor was difficult to understand as she had an accent. I still was never afraid to ask questions and still though she was a great instructor, but you would have made her look like she barely knew anything!

With these Ubuntu's as I have now fuddled(built) 4 of these, dependencies seem to be the most haunting problem of them all! If there is someway, when your program is building that it can ensure those dependencies will be there, is going to be a HUGE MIRACLE! My complaint with all these Ubuntu's I have built, is the command say "apt-get install ff-multiconverter" sure it fires off installs, then you get the system going and you find 3 or more files missing! Now that program is only to be taken as an "example" as am not pointing it out! There have been several programs in the past year doing this, that wind up missing these little 25 - 75kb files! I mean it is astounding, when you sat there downloading say about 200mbs of program(once again example!) then build the OS and find that tiny file tolds it back from engaging!

It has been a constant complaint of mine as follows "If a program needs a dependency and can not run without it, shouldn't that dependency be part of that program?" To me is the only reasonable way to go! I am lost why some of these files are as I say "Hidden" from the public! Least every one of these I have done my best to assemble has had these files, I have had to "Hunt" down! Right now, even though this current OS is pretty good, transcode2vob is still a missing plugin for brasero which ends of with nil when searched for!!!! Is very upsetting! I would sooner not be able to get the program at all, then only have part of it!

You are awesome with what you do and for the life of me, I can not understand how you can achieve such a high rate of success when you have all these negatives that I have pointed out! I mean Ultimate is or should almost be considered one of the "Wonders of the World". The fact that OS can run at a percentage no one else has been able to obtain, is a miracle in itself! I have spent over a year now just trying to figure out how you can do it, and believe me, still nowhere near figuring that out!!!! I am betting you are on the verge of creating your own OS that is not Linux???? Then again, the way you can write and do all this is probably done already!

Am just happy this world has someone like you that cares and works hard for all our benefits and is just not self-consumed! I can not wait til this world understands what you have done for them!!! As keep saying, you are the only developer that really cares! Everyone else burries the questions and just does things to their own liking!!! Not you, you consider all of us and that is what I enjoy the most! Thanks for being that way and will be looking forward to its completion!!!

I don't know if you seen the anouncement or not, but I have purchased another server and 2 domains for this tool http://uebuilder.com/ and http://os-builder.com/ this will prevent this tool from cripling this server or any other Ultimate Edition server. It is a huge bandwidth hog to build an operating system from 0 bytes to a full blown O/S. I have taken the time to mirror mates repository to the above servers. I have contemplated mirroring Ubuntu's as well. The server from what I have played with is quite nice, SSH access makes it much quicker to manipulate. Subversion, trac etc. just a click away.

Now that is the ticket! I should have known you would have a way to conquer that issue!!!! Thanks, I guess the announcement did slip by me! Clicked on the link, Logo is very sharp for a site under construction!!!! Shows what high class and calibre you run at!!! So, my statement definitely is going to get marked in stone as this is no doubt going to revolutionize Linux and turn it around completely!!! Absolutely, well done!!!! Actually, I would say TMOSB is going to wipe out the other OS's! To be able to get the percentage of performance you are always able to obtain, it would be pointless to use another OS that rates at least 10% under!!!! Of course, unless you are a gluten for punishment and just enjoy watching your computer crash! Not me, need work done when I want it done! I can not afford to have OS's refusing commands or GUI's!

As I said before, I spent about 18 days on this current OS!!! Sure, the performance is decent. Overall rating would say close to 90%! Now, your builder can achieve a 98% in a days time!!!! That is a plain miracle!!!! You know where I will be soon as I want another!!!! Sure, I do not mind current performance, but you better believe when the chance is there to achieve the best performance that is possible, I will be there!!!!! [Note to those reading: Rating System: Nothing exists above 98% as is not possible. Highest rated OS = Ultimate 98%. Most other OS's Unix and Linux 90%-94%. Windows rates at 80% due to lack of advancement. Just facts is all! MAC remains unrated, due to having never used it personally!]

This is going to be a dream come true for so many people!!! We all have different tastes and needs! Most people(Developers) only suppose what people will want and do not ever seem to care exactly what they want, so they just generalize! Now, no matter who we are can decided exactly what we would want for an OS!!! Blows me away that this is going to be possible! To me this is the most exciting thing happening for Linux! Once again thank you for that!!!
