Ok just wondered. Not a kde fan, so 3.5 was not an option for me.

Blackwolf: I tried 3.4, but the live version boots to Kde. How would I get it to boot to Unity or Gnome Shell, so that I can be sure everything works.

It's 3.5 that has KDE.

At Login(lightdm) right next to your name is a circle, most likely with a K in it, click on that circle and a list of sessions will pop up.

On 3.5 you also have XFCE, LXDE, Gnome Fallback(Classic), and Unity. Technically there is also Gnome 3 and Cinnamon but I haven't had much luck with them. If this is 3.5.1 you also have Mate in the Session List which works.

You also have XBMC.

You could also try 3.4 Lite which is just Mate which is more along the lines of the traditional Ultimate Edition look and style.

Sorry my mistake, you are right it was 3.5.1 that I was testing. So there is no gnome shell at this time. Oh well I will just have to wait. Btw I have not installed it, just running live cd. Is it possible to change it to boot into Unity?

Gnome-shell is how fallback is on there, so technically yes. However, if it is pure gnome-shell you are looking for, you might be better off with Ubuntu 13.04 Gnome to get to 3.8 which is incompatible as far as I know with Unity and Cinnamon, maybe a few others. Doesn't affect KDE because KDE doesn't rely on Gnomes. It uses elves.

Anywho 13.04 Gnome has the full suite and you can add cairo for an extra gnome environment as well.

Personally I think Mate is looking a little better than gnome for Ultimate Edition.

You could try Oz Unity Diamond 11-B.

It has working Gnome 3.6, Gnome Fallback, Cairo-Gnome, and Unity. There is no KDE anywhere in sight either. Based on Ubuntu 13.04.
