freezing dark screen [SOLVED]

I am new to Ultimate Edition everything seems to work well except a few times a day maybe 5 my screen goes darkened for about 5-10 seconds and I can't click anything is this normal? Any advice on how to fix it? I have a fairly new comp with 8gb ram i5 processor acer. ny advice is appreciated.

Can you verify that the screen does not wake up upon mouse movement or spacebar tap? You can have a look here to disable lock screen http://blog.projectz.me/2012/06/25/disable-the-lock-screen-and-screen-blank-on-ubuntu-12-04/ Also make due of your signature block with specs about your machine for future reference. Be sure to include whether it is a desktop or laptop and some gpu info, just so we can make sure this black screen is not due to hibernation or suspend.

I have a laptop it happens even when plugged in. The screen doesn't go black just dark tinted. no keys or mouse clicks work for about 5-10 secs, nothing seems to trigger it, it happens at any time maybe 5 times a day. what specs about my comp should I include. Its an acer aspire 8gb ram 750gb hd, 64bit, intel i5-245m. I am not a gamer and I dont over work it I surf the net do work and watch movies thats about it.

It appears to have worked hasn't frozen on me since. I did have to re install Ice tea jdk runtime java but that was no biggie. Thanks for all the help guys you are awesome.
