Hello Meister,
I have a problem with songbird.
When I click on the Icon I get the message Songbird is starting up, the cursor spins then changes back to the arroe but songbird doesn't open.Any thoughts?
P.S. I normally use Banshee but I have a Phillips MP3 player and Songbird is set up for automatic sync as it is a Phillips project.I am using Ultimate edition 2.9.

Code: Select all
/home/username/Songbird/songbird -safe-mode

or might try by resetting your profile
Code: Select all
/home/username/Songbird/songbird -p

Thanks for the quick response guys-much appreciated.
I will try the code-fixes and see what happens. Glad to know it's not something I did accidentally. When your'e not a techie it sometimes makes you feel real stupid when things don't quite work.Cheers-have a good one! :D

Billie, can you do me a favor and see if it is supported in ultimate player, It has wii remote support and I have no way to test it as well.

Hi TheeMahn,
I would love to help but I don't see how I can. I don't have any tech savvy whatever ( we are talking Linux for REAL dummies here ) Even using forums and posting is a new experience and I'm not 100% comfortable with that yet.I find the concept of Ultimate Player intriguing and if it was a straightforward automatic install I would love to test it out and give you some feedback, but I'm whistling in the dark when it comes to compiling and using the terminal for anything beyond sudo apt-get install.
If after that it doesn't show up in the menu it's hit or miss if I can track down the package and extract. I usually download to downloads folder and use"extract here" then look for an install instruction file within the program folder which works with some programs but not with others. For example I did successfully download Gno-fract4D and Alchemy but I couldn't activate them via the ( for me ) limited instructions so I took a chance and tracked them down through the file-system, then did a drag & drop to the panel on what I suspected was the program file to create launchers. with both of these programs it worked, but with others ,of course, it didn't.Sorry I can't help there but anything else that doesn't involve invoking the terminal too much I'd love to help with .Coming from a Mac-system, Linux is still quite a learning curve for me.
P.S. I still didn't get Songbird up and running so I'll just have to start over with Banshee and import my Music.etc, one C.D. at a time. :)

All you have to do mate is run ultimate player and see if it syncs with your mp3 player. That is if you don't mind :)

Hello Meister,
I think we have a communication problem here.
I understand perfectly what I am being asked to do.
So, to clarify-
First, I don't have Ultimate Player.
Second, I have tried downloading a deb file for x386 and I was warned it could damage my computer so I quit the download.
There is an option to download the source-code but that is where I have no experience at all.
I'll give that a try but ,like I said, this is all new to me, so watch this space.I'll let you know how I get on.

I was trying to download a deb file for x386, rather than the tar.gz file/. I was warned by the Chromium browser " this type of file may damage your computer".I think that may have been the problem, though I find that confusing as I thought Ubuntu distros were built on Debian.Am I wrong?
I haven't had this problem before as the occasional software downloads I have tried have more or less installed themselves.
Anyway I cancelled the download and have just downloaded the tar.gz for ultimate-player0.7.4.
Tried sudo apt-get install ultimate-player0.7.4
and get the message " package not found"
Downloaded file to downloads and used extract here but now I am lost as to what to do next.
Any advice on where to go from here
