Hello, I just logged on to my computer and got the same request, please say NO. You will cause problems if you do that. Ultimate Edition requires a fresh install you can't upgrade. If you go to their web site you will see UBUNTU is now using the UNITY window manager as default, not gnome as you are use to using with Ultimate Edition 2.8 or 2.9. dathem

Actually, I did without problems. I now have Unity, (which is great, btw), or Ubuntu Classic, (Gnome), to choose from. I lost Ubuntu Tweak and Ultimatix but it`s a simple matter to reinstall them.
I love Ultimate Edition & Oz Unity

You got lucky ! I have not been able to achieve this on 3 installs ! :o
You can now reinstall Ubuntu Tweak, but Ultimatix will be a while yet !

If I can hi-jack this thread, what about when upgrade manager pops up saying updates are available what should I apply? Obviously "New Ubuntu releases" are a no no, but what about "Important Security Updates"? If I want to upgrade to Ultimate Edition 2.9 is my only option downloading it and doing a clean install or is there another way? Thanks for your help.

Ultimate Edition Gamers 2.8 is without a doubt the best distro in the universe still!!!
I manage to update from 10.10 to 11.04 with it without any problem (unless you count the 6 hours or so it takes for the 1.5Gb download and install)...the only difference I have over what the above succeeder has, is I do not have a genuine Unity desktop (but I use most of the Theme still) as it doesǹt seem to want to load unless I go in first with SAFE (under Restore Install loader option) Video Settings and then set the GDP Login to CLASSIC UBUNTU (not UBUNTU)...so now I have a nice 11.04 install. Yes you do lose Ultimatix, etc. but you can get everything through package manager anyways right.

So just to say, this is beautiful...it works perfect and there is nothing wrong with it...I tried to install XUBUNTU before deciding on Ultimate Gamers 2.8 upgraded to 11.04 and am I ever glad I did, because Xubuntu (even the supposedly vanilla stable build) is NOT stable in my opinion (they just don't put as much work as into the main distro), and although would be nice, it`s too freaken buggy for me to even bother with at this point...my gamers edition 2.8 upgraded is still the best OS I have ever seen on a computer, and that
is my humble (yeahyeah harhar) opinion on it!!!

To the above poster, can you please tell me how you achieve that Full blown unity desktop it would be nice to be able to switch to it should i desire. thank you in advance!

Well, I now have the Unity desktop working as well (had to log in as root to get it)...yet I must add, I think I hate it. The 2.8 Desktop, whatever it uses by default (pretty sure its gnome) is vastly superior (like near 100%) in my opinion. The unity desktop is like a HUGELY dumbed down version of it. Thats my expert super-quick review of it. HOWEVER if you are one who loves LARGE desktop resses, UNLIKE I who prefer a 800x-600, 1024 max usually...YOU WILL PROBABLY LOVE THE layout of the Unity desktop, I can see some real strong points in favor of its very well designed and worked on polished build. Thats pretty much the whole of it, so I got this thing working in all the desktops (but I way prefer stock 2.8 Gnome with some unity icons, etc. that I get with classic Ubuntu login), and it really wasn't that hard to do, hats off to the massively good stability and design of the 2.8. I do not know if this is feasible on 2.9 I have not tried that yet, please anyone else report if they have information, thank you all. Goodbye.

HATS OF TO THE BEST LINUX IN EXISTENCE !!! ULTIMATE 2.8 GAMERS EDITION DVD
YOU WONDERFUL MASSIVELY PRO PEEPS NEED TO FIX ONLY ONE THING WITH IT I BELIEVE
MAKE IT SO THE LIVE DVD INSTALLS EASY WITHOUT I-NET ACCESS' ITS SIMPLE AND IS ONLY THING THAT I CAN THINK
OF TO MAKE THIS AMAZING DVD BETTER!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! :D
