Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.8

video and transcoding

Postby kjl56 » Sat Nov 13, 2010 7:17 pm

I have several programs that where installed with U.E 2.8. Only VLC and Kdenlive are working, with Kdenlive the encoded file size is about 8 times the original , everything else fails to load the file. With U.E 2.7 there this was not an issue but I also see there are different default programs loaded that where different from each operating systems. This may be a bug in the 2.8 build but not sure because ever thing else seams stable. Any help would be great.

have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the programs? what are you trying to encode? also have you got all the proper codecs installed ? handbrake usually always works for me so you could give that a try :)

I agree, handbrake is about the best transcoding tool out out there. Here is how I have set it up, as the normal binaries are not compatible with the newer Ubuntu flavors.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stebbins/handbrake-snapshots
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install handbrake-gtk
Hope that helps!

Installed handbrake and trans coded mpeg video with original h264 video and ac3/a52 and mp4 ACC at 4800 stereo
using MKV container. Only issues is random shuttering video play back. The original file plays with no issue.
thanks

Sometimes a 2 pass encoding will result in better playback.
