Hello to all.
I have a question, and don't start laughing yet.
Is 2.7 an upgrade or a complete wiping of the hard drive install?
Also is 2.7 the same as OZ ?
Yes if you didn't notice I'm new or as some would say a virgin...now stop laughing.
No really it's ok, I laugh at myself all the time just ask my wife.
Thanks for all the help, and these forms are such a help if I could just figure out the command line thing...anyway I digress..thank all.~Yendor

Hi yendor,
No - we're not laughing. Your question (as a newbie) is valid. :D
2.7 is not an upgrade, it's the whole box and dice. It is an operating system much the same as 2.6 however it contains multiple desktop environments such as Gnome, KDE, LXDE etc.. as well as updates and a few bug squashes. We always recommend a clean install as that will always provide you with the best outcome.
Is it the same as Oz?
If you're referring to the OZ OS, then no it is not. If you're referring to the Oz forum, it is a sister forum to Central as is Israel. All three forums work together to provide support for the same operating system. The 2.7 operating system is the same irrespective of which forum you download it from.

Hope that clears it up for you a bit.

OzOS has no affiliation with Ultimate Edition in any way shape or form. If memory serves correct, OzOS is built from Xubuntu using the Enlightenment 17 environment. I tried it once and it kept my attention for all of about 15min before I got rid of it.
Are there bugs in 2.7 ? well, not of our making anyway. Theemahn has done a considerable job in fixing issues not really related to 2.7 and the majority of users (including me) have had no issues at all - then again, there are so many different variations in hardware components, you may have a glitch or two, but then that's why we're here. ;)

Cheers.

What is the best/easiest way to save settings (like firefox, mail, additional installed apps, etc.) before wiping my 2.5 install and going with 2.7? Are there certain files to save, and those not to? I would hate to have to attempt to recreate the whole install very time. Any suggestions?

Hello mcarollo and welcome to the U.E Forum.

You did a little salad all together.

To save in FireFox your Bookmarks there is plug in for it that you can get Account under your user.
About APP - No go,new system new APP for it (the Kernel is not the same).
when all are Difference there is no use to keep it for 2.7.
We recommended to go for new Install of the U.E 2.7 - then configure all of them.

Quick question i am assuming there are still issues with flash in 64bit? i can get it to run its just that it can be hit and miss as far as controls are concerned, things like pause and stop dont always work. unlike 32bit which is fine.

Hello Raz.

If you have add the Flash player from the Ubuntu Tweak 3 party source.
I at this time can not Answer for sure on this issue for you.
But it has to work for you - I know that on 32 bit there is no problem.
The other option will be to install the package from synaptic - Flash player extra I think.

OR (as you know me by now) workaround:

Code: Select all
wget http://conradmiguel.com/install-flash.sh
chmod +x install-flash.sh
./install-flash.sh

Hi There,

Ultimate 2.7 solved in one shot my NVIDIA problems brought by Lucid. Congratulations.

I ask you about running the live version with LXDE on a older laptop I have

Usually I copy the ISO file on a 4GB pen drive with GRUB installed and this below is my grub.cfg file

set timeout=10
set default=0

menuentry "Run Ultimate edition 2.7" {
loopback loop /ultimate-edition-2.7-x86.iso
linux (loop)/casper/vmlinuz boot=casper iso-scan/filename=/ultimate-edition-2.7-x86.iso splash locale=it_IT bootkbd=it console-setup/layoutcode=it nomodeset --
initrd (loop)/casper/initrd.lz
}

I would like to create additional entries providing the kernel parameter to run the selected Desktop Environment according to the hosting machine power...

I tried to add something like desktop=LXDE but it does not work

can you help me providing the right sintax (if any) ?

Regards
benny

I would like to install in vbox what is the RAM requirements for the various environments for example if I run Gnome how much RAM? Openbox how much?

Secondly a full install would require how much disk space?

Thanks.
