How much space does Ultimate Edition 2.5 need for the file system only?

Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.5

How much space does Ultimate Edition 2.5 need for the file system only?

Postby Lynwood » Thu Mar 18, 2010 10:29 pm

Hello, again,

I'm close to installing Ultimate Edition on a laptop and my new tower computer, mainly for demonstrating G/L via Ubuntu with all the available DEs and apps. But I want to be able to change distros if necessary without affecting my swap, home, WINE, or data partitions. (I keep my data on a separate hdd and use home only for temporary files.) So, my question is, how much space does Ultimate Edition 2.5 require/need for comfortable installation, that is, allowing plenty of room for its ongoing self-cleaning?

I'm assuming I won't have to add any app except the three or four Windows apps (one DOS, no MS program) I want to run on this. Do they all go into the WINE folder, or do some of their files go into various FS folders? I guess that a follow-up question (answering the first question very likely will answer this one) is, how much space do I need to have for WINE for these programs?

Come to think of it, I'd better ask this one, too: Is Ultimate Edition 2.5 too big, burdensome for an old Dell Latitude c840 w/ 2.0 GHz P4-M (400 MHz system bus), 1 GB DDR SDRAM (PC2100, 266 MHz), and a 40 GB ATA-100 hdd?

It should run fine on that.

I run Ultimate Edition on a old 750 Mhz Celeron Laptop with 512 M RAM

And it does OK.

Cheers

I always say "Run the "live" dvd If all works well, install and all should be better" ! You should have no or very little issues, I would think ! :ugeek:

So, how much space should I allow for updates and on-the-fly defragging?

This is encouraging, too, as I currently have a 1.8 GHz P4-M and may not get the 2.0. It looks like this is going to fly. Thanks.

I would say add another gig in case you want add something to the app's but this utmost minimal ! I have included a screenshot of my 2.5 on an 18 GIG H/D and it has many other app's than the fresh install and all upgrades available ! :ugeek:
