No specific 2.5 forum on main forum page

Postby mcgo » Sat Dec 19, 2009 12:22 pm

Why isn´t there a 2.5 forum selection on the main forum page. I found it in the FAQ
by default, not need! My view is that the fatal errors in the network manager, and wierd reactions
with the Synaptic interface in live mode drive me crazy! Ubuntu problems for sure which Ithought
were fixed!

Welcome to the forum mcgo, glad to have you here.
As Darkchild has mentioned, we have a few permissions issues after recovering from a phpBB upgrade. Please bear with us as we track them down and resolve them.
With regard to your Synaptic interface in 'live' mode, the first thing that comes to mind (without additional clarification) is that you may have a 'dodgy' burn or a questionable .iso. Have you confirmed the MD5Sum of your downloaded .iso? Have you tried another burn at the slowest speed possible?

Cheers.

Sorry about that, I always looked at the forum without logging-in, my bad.

The network manager problem is with dsl setup in live mode which didn´t work in 9.10, and
someone indicated that a patch/work around existed. Started in 2.4 and though you´d catch it in 2.5.

The Synaptic thing is interesting. In live mode the first time you call it up and ask it
to actualize(i.e. check for updates) it runs, shows the files and the moment you start
typing a search word it crashes. The second time you run it everything works fine.
I did have one failure when it crashed immediately after the updated list appeared
however this never repeated.

Needed synaptic for nvidia and flash player not-free.

I´ve downloaded and burned 2 dvd´s of 2.5 and the problem appeared on both.

Yes you did download and burn two dvd's but did you do a MD5sum on the iso hash before burning? which we normally recommend. Plus it is always recommended to burn the iso at the lowest speed possible 4x or lower!!

Yep, been there and done that is one, but did you burn it at a low burning speed like 4x or lower?

i´m beginning to get a little agitated, with a little more than 40 years in IT your
questions are a little hollow! Found two threads in this list with references to the same
problems, how about looking at the problems!

And if you really need an answer to all questions: Yes teacher the rate was 4x with verification in all cases!

I see you have an attitude problem. Please do not bring it here. We simple ask a few questions which you didn't reply to what was asked!! 40 years in I.T or not doesn't say anything to me, especially when you can't answer simple questions and be rude on top of it. The next time you want to be rude go else where with it!! That type of behavior is not welcome here.
