Open latter to the users who want to upgrade to solve problems now.
with Video card and network problems.

Hello everyone on the Team:

O.K ,

I want to share in the long test of the day from early morning.
With the problem of TheeMahn video card's .
So the process is as follows as I made, and what is the main bug.

STEP-1.

install clean U.E 2.3 and do those steps to complete the Upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10/U.E-2.4.
When installation is complete the first step of the ultimate system,
Updates must be installed first.
Then restart the computer.

STEP -2.

When you back to the Desktop,Open Synaptic,Restart Refresh,Install just the Firestarter no more!
Close Synaptic,Open Ubuntu Tweak and Add the third-party sources and apply to them.
Then come the Tricky part.

STEP -3.

Open Terminal,And you have to EDIT sources.

Code: Select all
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

NOW ADD THEM ALL IN ONE COPY AND PAST TO THE BOTTOM OF YOUR LIST.

Code: Select all
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu karmic main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu karmic main
deb http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic main restricted

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/amoog/amoog-ready/ubuntu jaunty main

AND go for the Upgrade to 9.10 Build.

You will have 2 Upgrades,One in about 1 1/2,Then After Restart, you will go to the next step.

STEP - 4.

Now Please Go to Add packages,Plug ins and all you need on One or 2 rounds of Install.
Then There will be some of 230-240 packages to clean in Ubuntu Tweak after Adding Resource.
So First clean the packages THEN INSTALL ANY PACKAGE IN SYNAPTIC.
Restart the Machine.

STEP-5

NOW The problem that That you will have to face with will be the Mixer/Kind of click's in the speakers.
That will stay there because It's bug Issue and it connect to the panel of the new Gnome.
Here is the place to Advise that to install as close to my Guide + (New packages that were in the upgrade).
Then you will need to install All the Multimedia From the start!
And nothing will be configure for you After the up grade.
U.E WILL BE GONE FOR YOU!!
And to bypass The First Issue with the Sound ,and Pop Up that will ask you if you want to Delete
The files That have some conflict with Then have to be Delete From the Machine.
SOW THERE IS BUG IN THE PANEL OF Gnome AND THE MIXER SOUND,OPTION WITH PULSE AUDIO!!

IN THIS POINT I HAVE INSTALL THE ALSA MIXER AND PLUG INS.
DELETE THE PULSE AUDIO= NO GO.
SOW DO NOT DELETE THE PULSE AUDIO FROM THE YOUR MACHINE !!
THE BUG WILL BE FIX FOR YOU AFTER INSTALL THE U.E THEMES 2.4+HALLOWEEN AFTER THAT+
CHOSE THE HALLOWEEN THEMES,AND ADD THE SOUND IN THE MIXER TO 2.4 THEMES.

STEP -6

configure you Desktop,ADD all that you need for,get the Video card work for you.
NEW if you need to Upgrade The card do it,If not no is the Time to Delete Totem from Synaptic.
With the 4 packages that need to get Upgrade for the package.
Configure your network WiFi..

STEP - 7

NETWORK WILL WORK FOR YOU.
THE ALL AROUND ACCEPT THE NEW PACKAGES AND NEW SOFTWARE LIKE "BACK IN TIME".
"BACK IN TIME" AS SOFTWARE TO BACK YOUR MACHINE WITH ROOT AND USER OPTION'S,
THAT YOU CAN DECADE WITH SOME OPTION TO MAKE SNAP SHOT FROM THE DIRECTORY
THAT YOU WILL GIVE HIM TO MAKE SNAP SHOT TO THE DIRECTORY THAT YOU WILL MAKE FOR IT.
THEN YOU WILL BE TO USE IT TO GET YOUR THINGS GET FROM THE DAY YOU WANT.

SO VIDEO CARDS GoT SOME GOOD UPGRADE WITH FIX (GOOD ONES).
THEY HAVE FIX THE 3 CARDS NVIDIA,ATI,INTEL.
THE NET WORK FINE AND WORK GOOD WITH THE UPGRADE PACKAGES OF THE KERNEL 2.6.31.14.
THE VIDEO AFTER UN INSTALL TOTEM AND THE MAIN IS MPLAYER AND VLC AND XINE.
YOU HAVE THE FFMPEG,AVI,MPG,PLUG INS ,SOFTWARE,AND MP3,USB,WEBCAM....
THEN YO COVER THE STABLE SYSTEM THAT WITH FOR THE BUG FIX.
WORK BETTER THEN 2.3 WITH THE NEW KERNEL AND KIND OF WORK .
IT IS YOUR TIME TO GET THE VIDEO CARDS TESTED TO SEE IF IT COVER THE BUG AND.
THE PLUG INS IN FIREFOX WORK FINE AND NOT TO BAD.

IN THE NEXT 2 WEEKS YOU WILL GET THE BUG FIX/OR/NOT.

SO TheeMahnThis is the Time to see if you can bypass the pulse Audio.
That sure will Ignore and Pulese Audio to be install on the system that will stable the Syestem.
And will give better aria to work better with alsa and oss from the other hand.

SO Team This is the test That will let you go in the right process to stable the system for you.
And for the User's that is the same thing all the way to the end part.

Well Thee I Hope that this is what you ask for ? I think.

Ok so I'm through step 3.

When I restarted the computer....Xubuntu booted up?! No clue how this happened.

I can't do step 4 because I no longer have Ubuntu Tweak and it's not in the repos?

I noticed that I did make a mistake during Step 2... after installing Firestarter, I never went to Ubuntu Tweak to install third-party apps.

Please tell me I don't have to start from step 1 with a fresh install of 2.3
(edit: I only say that because I have a horribly slow internet connection and am already 11 hours in. I realize for missing a step I kinda deserve to start over by formatting and doing a fresh 2.3 install again)

If you have read all, you would know that you have to re-add all non-ubuntu-supported repos after the upgrade to 9.10.(You must only set the mark before it. The repos are named Jaunty because the installer changed the repos to karmic but not the names, which are shown in Synaptic etc..) And then you can install Ubuntu Tweak and go on with the tutorial. btw. Thanks for this good tutorial.

P.S. At my computer, the installer didn't removed Ubuntu Tweak.

Thanks jg1006,
and yes a BIG THANKS to Admin-Amir for the How-to.

I did the repos change before upgrading.

Turns out I also had to add Ultimate Edition repos before I could get my hands on Ubuntu Tweak. I don't know why I didn't have it after the upgrade. I remember choosing to remove a ton of packages during the upgrade. I guess I wiped out everything that Ultimate Edition installs with that slick move.

Unfortunately the Third-party sources option isn't available in Ubuntu Tweak once you've upgraded to Karmic. Live and learn.

I also had no idea I could set my session to Gnome from the login screen... I'm new what can I say. Color me embarassed

I was afraid I was stuck with Xubuntu...which "in my humble opinion" looks like buttcheek. If that was the case I most certainly would've gone back to 2.3 and waited for 2.4 to release and go about this the easy way.

Thanks for the welcome. Been browsing for a month or so now, just finally registered.

That's why I'm kicking myself...I read it at least 4 times.

As I was waiting I even told myself: "self, installing 3rd Party Apps will be the next step."

I'm just glad I didn't jack it up and I'm really pretty ecstatic that I have all of my compiz features AND fullscreen video working together.
