Hello Driver .
Option "Tiling" "true" # i8xx users: set to false

if you have video card that is i810 or lower then you need to use false.
is you have newer card then you have to use when edit the trueoption.

please post the output of :
Code: Select all
grep -i UXA /var/log/Xorg.0.log

and please Driver do not write book as post, work here with me please.
Did you want into Ubuntu Tweak and add the Ubuntu-X
THEN open terminal and update/upgrade - when ask for upgrade-y+Enter?
then restart your machine, then when you come back to your Desktop=>synaptic=>reload=>mark all upgrade=>
Apply?

Will it cause me problems if I try your How-to again?

Seems to be somewhere between a 945 and a 950 (I have been unable to narrow it down). Therefore I will leave it at true. I am assuming that the higher numbers are newer than the lower (IDK if this is true).

I believe so. I don't recall being asked to approve anything (y+Enter) however. I cannot be certain because it took me some frustrating minutes to understand that

"Book" part of message (you may disregard if in hurry):
I can attempt to follow your How-to again from the beginning. I have reinstalled the ".15" kernel updates - which fixed my inability to boot from the default option in the bootloader - so I do not believe that I will have to reinstall Ultimate Edition again.

Thank you for personally working with me. I am slowly learning (some) basics. No longer afraid of "terminal" and now understand "sudo" & why it is better than "root". Other things unrelated to my graphics issue but still important in understanding are side-affects of having to "tinker" with it instead of just "using" it. :)

I can now watch an internet "television" show in full-screen! Before trying these fixes I would see a few seconds of "jerky" video and then the video would freeze while the audio continued. Extra thanks for that.<BREW>

I just saw on
Code: Select all
http://intellinuxgraphics.org/
that there is a newer Intel graphics code. It is xf86-video-intel 2.8.1:
Release 2.8.0 (2009-08-25)
============================
We are pleased to announce this 2.8.1 maintenance release of the
xf86-video-intel driver. This snapshot contains a few, hand-picked
fixes since the 2.8.0 release. Several of the bugs fixed can manifest
themselves as "random" crashing or hanging of the GPU, (so effectively
the interactive session). We recommend that all users/distributors of
2.8.0 upgrade to 2.8.1.

Would I be wise to use it in place of the version in your How-to? If so, would all of the instructions be the same? If the answer to either question is no, then I will not use it.

Driver,
Thank you for make things short for me <BREW>
well it looks like you did after all things right!!
and you have gut the 3D to work for you.
now do not be afraid to work the 3D on your Desktop.
If you working with wine,it will be better to disable the 3D affects.
that step will not going to get you hard time with windows issue of the borders.

Desktop affects

let me try it out first then I will be back for your answer on that one.

hell no!!
that will get you to upgrade the kernel and from that story I do not need one more.
stay with this Drive until the next release of the U.E 2.4.
Then the fix of the Driver will be on it.
so do not run for this upgrade, there is allot of problems with the kernel upgraded.

I read somewhere - Linux Planet, Linux Magazine, IDK - that someone was in my shoes(*) and had the same 100fps scores. They did something and got 400fps scores. Inferred that it was a known procedure (perhaps yours). Then they talked about doing an upgrade that caused their scores to TRIPLE. I do not remember more than that as I knew I did not have the required knowledge to follow the upgrades (it wasn't like yours step-by-step). They did mention that there was some problem in upgrading.

The new Intel driver I read about this morning is newer than the article was - and the text for the driver mentioned that it fixed many problems from the previous one which I believe was the one the person used in the article. That is the only reason that I asked.

Rest assured that I will not do ANYTHING concerning upgrades that I do not read about here :D . This is where the UltimateEdition-specific information is and also you folks are kind enough to help the headblind.

(*)Only much more intelligent.

Hi TheeMahn ! :) I have an ATI 9600 and came up with this;
john@john-desktop:~$ glxgears

4459 frames in 5.0 seconds = 891.791 FPS
4523 frames in 5.0 seconds = 904.534 FPS
4511 frames in 5.0 seconds = 902.059 FPS
4550 frames in 5.0 seconds = 909.858 FPS
4572 frames in 5.0 seconds = 914.299 FPS
4541 frames in 5.0 seconds = 907.954 FPS
4545 frames in 5.0 seconds = 908.368 FPS
4515 frames in 5.0 seconds = 902.994 FPS

still looks good with no problems !

The third alpha of Ubuntu 9.10 shipped with the latest 2.8.0 Intel driver, X.Org Server 1.6.2 RC1, and a development snapshot of the Linux 2.6.31 kernel. Phoronix reported poor performance test results with this alpha but I found significant improvement on my system. Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 4, released last week, also includes a newer kernel snapshot and the 2.8.0 driver, which no longer supports EXA and DRI1. While enabling UXA and DRI2 caused instability on my system with the 2.7.x drivers I have no such problem with 2.8.0. With 3D animation enabled I do still see some brief video corruption for a second, perhaps less, when a new window is opened, and a corresponding stutter in whatever action is being performed. I wonder if the stutter I see is part of the cause of the poor performance numbers the Phoronix testers saw. Once a window is open performance seems to be very good. I see no problems at all with 2D graphics using the latest Ubuntu 9.10 build. This is the same result I reported in my review of Pardus 2009 last week. Even though this is an early alpha build with some bugs I found Ubuntu 9.10 to already be far more usable than Ubuntu 9.04.

The above quote is from DistroWatch Weekly, Issue 316, 17 August 2009. If I want to try playing around with newer kernels and drivers (perhaps the ones mentioned, perhaps others), is there much involved in the process? I notice on my boot menu that I've got three different kernels on my system but it seems like I read once that installing a new kernel can "break dependencies" or something else that sounded ominous. So I thought maybe I should ask first.

Code: Select all
http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20090817#feature

Additionally, should we be running glxgears in full-screen instead of in that tiny little window? Because if so, my scores drop to 50-52 FPS.
