You might try this thread: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2720&p=28506

The manual method worked fine for me...

I doubt it was wubi sense it would have installed the plain ubuntu......if it worked. You can Do what I did.Install the new 9.04,and download the ultimate 2.1 theme.Works good, stable, faster, and no upgrade errors. ;) Then you add the apps you want in a variety ways......with no errors.Least I haven't had any yet.

One more thought.....If your running an ati card, check out their driver site. They dropped support on many cards now.If you have one of these cards it should be fine unless you do any 3d stuff on your box.

Another thing I would suggest is to go into Synaptic Package Manager, click on file, the click on "save markings as." This saves a list of your software installed via Synaptic. Make sure to save it on a USB drive or your windows drive because otherwise it will disappear when you reinstall.

When you reinstall 9.04, you go into Synaptic, choose "read markings," point it at the file you saved, and once it has completed reading you click on "apply" and that will reinstall most, if not all, of the software you had installed on 2.1.

Install 2.2 in the same way and it will overwrite the 2.1,just backup your data from /home directory/partition.
