Virtualbox 2.1

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.1

Virtualbox 2.1

Postby dragonfly » Fri Mar 06, 2009 2:36 pm

Just a little info on what I experienced using virtualbox 2.1.
I installed virtualbox 2.1 from its website and installed Windows XP in it. I found that the cursor could not be captured and discarded at will, It was a hit and miss problem. Sometimes I could capture it and then when I discarded it I could not recapture it. I was just about to give up and just partition my computer and install Windows XP on the new partition.
I decided to try one more thing and that was to install VBoxGtk.
Once I installed VBoxGtk and accessed Windows XP, SunxVM VirtualBox appears and Windows XP loads and everything works excellent.
Just thought I would share the info in case anyone else had this problem.

I can't for the life of me get VirtualBox to recognise USB devices.

I can't enable it at all......

Not too much of a worry, just a pain in the ass.

Cheers

You need to use the non OSE version from here:
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
And make sure your guest additions are installed on the guest operating system(Windows I presume).
If it is a printer you have to install the driver for it in your guest operating system for it to work.

I could not get any USB devices to work on virtualbox OSE, that is why I went to the virtualbox 2.1. The ose version did not have a USB option. When I installed the 2.1 version it gives you that option, but then you have to go into the settings and enable USB controller, enable USB 2.0, then choose a USB filter. The second filter I selected actually read Photosmart 4400 in the little blue band, after that I used the installation disc to install it on windows XP. Hope this helps.

Oh crap I feel stupid...

I was trying to tick the "Enable USB 2.0" box.

Because of the dark theme, I couldn't see the box above it....all good now.

Cheers
