Help & support for Ultimate Edition 3.2

Re: verson 3.2 is zorin

Postby cheeks » Sat Mar 17, 2012 2:14 pm

I just downloaded Ultimate Edition 3.2 again from the link pch.shot posted, which is the source forge one I used the other times a downloaded it, trying different mirrors from within there, also from the torrent source that that was posted on in the forum. I opened the iso and compared the files and they are the same.

With each one I burn the disk and try it live and after the Ultimate Edition 3.2 splash screen finishes it turns into Zorin OS, so I try doing an install, that also ends up being Zorin OS. As I said, I like Zorin and I have 5.2 and also 6 rc, but I am also running Ultimate Edition 3.0 32 bit and would rather be running 64 bit, and I liked the looks of Ultimate Edition 3.2.

I like Ultimate Edition, I am running Windows 7 and 8 when I want to play Battlefield or Skyrim, but the rest of the time I run Onyx, Ultimate Edition or Zorin and then try others for sport.

can anyone give me a clue to what is up with my install

Hello cheeks,
haven't got a clue what's wrong with your install.
I have had different problems with mine as have others but at least It is 3.2 and not Zorin.
I am starting to wonder if the problem originates from the sourceforge download itself.
As a last resort, all I can suggest is that you order am Ultimate Edition 3.2 DVD from linuxcd.org. According to the newsletter they have sent me they are ready for dispatch. It will cost a few pounds but at least you'll have 3.2 . :teabreak
All that I am or seem is but a dream within a dream.

So I am admittedly kind of a rookie. Can you give me step by step instructions on how to make the wireless in my HP G7 work with 3.2? It worked perfectly with 2.9, but not with 3.2. What changed?

mandraagora, what wireless device do you have in the HP? If you're not sure, just open a terminal and enter
Code: Select all
lspci -nnv
That will tell you each device in detail and what driver it is currently using, if any. Just paste that output here for us to look at and we can offer some guidance.

That's your wireless...Broadcom BCM4313 using the wl module, often called the STA driver. If I'm not mistaken, these are sometimes activated with conflicting drivers (wl and brcmsmac). You can open a terminal and type in
Code: Select all
lsmod
and see if it lists both of those. If it does, the way to remove one is to blacklist it, which tells the system to ignore it and not activate it on restarts. To do so, just
Code: Select all
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
and add the following to the end of the list, save and exit
Code: Select all
blacklist brcmsmac
Once that is done, then just
Code: Select all
sudo modprobe -r wl brcmsmac
then
Code: Select all
sudo modprobe wl
Wait a few moments then try to connect.

I want to first say thanks to everyone who tried to help me with my wireless probs n 3.2
Unfortunately none of these suggestions has worked. I think I will stick with 2.9 for now & hopefully the next version of Ultimate Edition will again work with my computer as easily as it does in 2.9
One other question though: how do I update ALL of my software sources in 2.9 so that they are the same as in 3.2? Particularaly interested in updating the Ultimate Edition & KDE repositories above all.
