i have always wanted to strip down ubuntu from its business apps.
Also wanted to shifted to debian.. but it has its problems of drivers as the stables are a bit outdated.

Today made a clean install.
It din boot.
got a error amixer 1.. something
Had to chroot from live cd to fix alsa (ubuntu always booted.. never gave this error)
then xfce was 4.8. had to use sid repo to update to 4.10
Then well i though well it was wld be better i just updated to sid...
Its running good till now. The two major problems are alsa drivers (speakers remain on after pluging headphones and amd/intel switchable graphics)

There are quite a lot good points about ubuntu..
-Non lts built of debian sid... but has its own repo which is freezed.. [ debian's sid is always updating, need to be more careful ]
-Ubiquity is a good product.
-Less hardware compatibility trouble by default.
-Big fixing for laptops much better than debian.

Negatives about ubuntu
-Commercial products
-Extra packages by default
-Kernel is generic
-Unnecessary inclusion of unity supported packages in other spins.

So now ill test debian for some days.... and choose whether to build ubuntu like debian or configure debian like ubuntu..?

THere will be updates to this post .. as testing is an ongoing process...!
A bit of help needed :
I have not been able to find a guide on amd/intel switchable graphics for debian.
Here is one for ubuntu.. GUIDE
Can someone tell me if it will work similarly on debian.
Or is there any guide ..?

Switching graphics would be same for debian as you would with ubuntu.
The usual:

 sudo aticonfig --initial

and then Reboot .....
check amdccc...this method should work.

ALso upgrade the kernel to a newer series or install liquorix.
Ivy bridge is supported better with new kernels and so is your radeon..
You can also use llvmpipe and see if its any good..

My experience of the new debian -- is that it has crappy wireless support...kind of face-palm situation but..

I cannot install them directly... They need to be compiled... And Debian has deprecated ia32-libs. So I don't think I would be able to compile them.
Another drawback till everything shifts to multi arch.
