taxation software and usage is still in its infancy on linux...

Although there are some good financial software's available via software centre....like Gnucash.
Hopefully you could dig for the source code too.

I am constantly at odds with the idea of $ vs. opensource. To a mainsteam programmer this is suspect. I do not like cloud personally and see no reason for it. But..if one could give a reason why one would welcome opensource that is not related to that which they do for work..i mean..that is heavy contract..conflict of interest is not a light lawyer tool, I was wondering what that might be.

No reason to use a Cloud? For the average household its wonderfull idea. For controll, its a great idea. But for most of us IT people its the worst idea. Unless we manage it ourselves. I tend to like the features of my owncloud vm, but i would never save or run anything on any cloud that i dont have controll over. Personally, that's where i draw the line. But on Open Source and Programming, i would like you to please expand...

The programmer in question just sold his own source code for @)))) and it is basically the cloud connectors for the program that makes the tax calculations that vary from location. As you have stated Sir Micro, that while cloud makes no sense to one who has an idea of what it actually is, it is still a rather prevalent technology that many distros including including Ubuntu are trying to make use of. It is not the taxation program itself that is of any consequence although many people who will read this have contributed to it.

For a funny note..it recently occured to me that he was one of the many people behind .net. This is the very thing that was implemented in later Xp to install from site that I did not have in my XP pro. For added hilarity, I have a signed sealed copy of it in my house.

lol indeed. Thats where the future OS's are heading. ChromeOS and a bunch of others, already lightweight fully cloud driven. They love talking about how fast and responsive, but the fact is its just a virtual desktop, a zero client. Ubuntu's directions and the latest amazon crap they are pulling is starting to make me sour. I just hope they remember their roots and not fully conform, as thoses who have been with them are the those who actually care about having a voice and the right to choose. I mean they already forgot about their largest supporter, the desktop user. Screw the desktop user, we are going to unity and not looking back. Heading towards the portable platforms as that is what the future holds. Well how hard would it have been to also have a desktop Gnome OS in the lineup. Eneough of me rambling, but these are just a few reasons why my main desktop is Debian. Their values havent changed and i can still be proud running it...
