What is the newest / most stable Ultimate Edition OS?

What is the newest / most stable Ultimate Edition OS? It would be 2.6.5 correct? Is it more stable than 3.01? Just wondering, because I am currently using 3.01, but am hearing 2.6.5 is very stable, is there anything else that makes 2.6.5 better than 3.01? I think I am going to have to give that a try, if it is better of course. Thanks!

Depends on your hardware. mine is a couple years old, so while I will look at 3.0.1 2.6.5 ins my main OS

Can you reveal your specs to me please, if you do not mind? Thank you! Just to compare it to what I am running, because my machine is a few years old also.

Mine is a couple of years old too but I use 3.0.1 and have found it just as stable as 2.6.5. the only real difference is in some of the software packages.i.e Libreoffice or Openoffice.
I use a HP Pavilion laptop with 4 Gig ram and 320Gig Hitachi-Sati hard drive with AMD dual-core processors.I have 2.6.5 on a seperate external hard drive and i think it's a bit faster booting up but otherwise no difference.
