PDF &/or image file transfers to a linux OS

Postby ninjawarrior » Sat Nov 17, 2012 8:39 pm

I don`t know if this is the right place to ask, but where I work we print allot of signs. And my question is not really a question but an attempt to resolve a problem. The problem is that we transfer files from our working desktops (all WinXP & 7 OS`s) to our printer which has a Linux OS on it. The only thing I know about the printer is that the kernel is something like 1.02 and the name of the printer software is Vuteck. Our problem is that sometimes when files are sent, then once they are opened up, the Linux OS freezes up. The only thing to do at that point is to restart the system. They also use Adobe Illustrator to modify there files and use something called a Firey server to handle the files.
I am not looking for a total solution here, but possibly, if any of you guys out there, might have some clues to what might be causing the problems. There are other issues to, but what I`m looking for here is possibly some ideas. The first thing that came to mind was that they should apdate the kernel, but what they have us do is just reinstall the existing software! They do this, I think, because they no longer produce the printer we are using.
I don`t expect to get any replies, but you guys seem to be quite the Linux experts, so who else best to ask!! :geek:

PDF files are just pictures like JPG.
Set up a virtual enviroment on MS:
https://www.virtualbox.org/
Using a USB stick formatted to Fat32:
Copy and paste the pdf file to the stick first
and then to the linux os.
Or try pasting the image to a shared clipboard or folder.

You can try a non generic post-script driver on windows. If this doesnt happen on a word doc, it directly points to the driver. Thats pretty much all i can give you without specs...
