I am having trouble finding anything online and

"AV programs for Linux do not look for Linux viruses. AV programs under Linux look for Windows viruses. AV program installed on a Linux machine, will have no effect on the security of the Linux machine itself. However, an AV program installed on a Linux machine will help secure surrounding Windows machines. While Windows dominates the desktop market, Linux is the master on servers; it is common to see Windows machines interfacing with a Linux server for e-mail, file sharing, etc. Thus the Linux machine will be the best place to put a Windos AV protection to stop viruses from spreading to the Windows machines."

I do not interact with any Windows machines anymore(well..fixing people's Windows machines, but my machine does not communicate directly) so I have no reason to install.

I suppose you have installed this before, there may be a reason it doesn't show up on the Mate desktop, where did the Icon in the panel appear on what I imagine was a Gnome Classic/Fallback/Flashback environment?

With Mate we can create a launcher in the panel at any rate, so Right Click on the Top Panel, hold on, switching computers..

ok..right click top panel

Click on "Add to Panel"

Click on "Custom Application Launcher"

Under Name, Call it "Comodo" or Anti_Virus..call it Shirley, it won't care, however..

Under Command..now there may be an issue, but I am going to assume the terminal command is comodo so enter "comodo" in the command field.

Click Ok

Now you have a launcher in your panel.

To change the appearance of the launcher..

First go on the internet and find a logo, like query "Comodo Logo Png"

Save that to where you can find it.

Right Click on the Launcher

Click on Properties

In the window that comes up there will be a square in left hand upper corner with a picture of the launcher, click on this..

Now navigate to the Comodo Png you acquired earlier and open it.

Now close Launcher properties and you should be all set.

In my opinion.."No"

Now if you have an Android or something along those lines, and you move it back and forth to a machine that runs Windows, you may want to Scan it, or if you have a network setup that a Windows machine has access to then you definitely want to scan it, but a Linux machine is not Virus free so much as there is no automatic execute assigned generally. However, once your machine communicates with another that does run Windows then it can be problematic. Personally I figure that if I am communicating with a Windows machine, the Windows machine I am communicating with most likely has an Anti-Virus of it's own, and if it doesn't pick them up, then it is probably on the road to Screwedville anyways.
