Upgrade Question

When I installed Ultimate Edition 3.0 lite and ran the update manager I was asked if I wanted to upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10. Since I installed Ultimate Edition on my test machine to see how I liked it I told it to go for it. I'm seriously thinking about installing lite on my main machine but I would like to know if there are any known issued but doing this upgrade?

I have not experienced any problems on this test machine, in fact I think it runs quite well.

Thanks
Bill

NEVER take the upgrade! You`ll wind up with generic Ubuntu.

Thanks. I did notice that the update manager changed after the upgrade. This is the first time I have seen an OS upgrade like this. Shouldn't it be disabled?

That`s...actually, that`s a damn good question. Perhaps a dev can explain.

Ours is not to question why, but to do or die.

My suggestion is to set up a virtual environment and try it there or to try it live first. If everything works out and you are happy, then install. If not move on. You have so many options regarding os these days.

This is what I like about Linux and Open source in general you do have so many options. As I mentioned I had not seen an upgrade option in an update manager and I have been playing around with Lubuntu and did not see one so I was thinking it maybe something Ultimate Edition had added although I did not see any posts about it or mention so that is why I asked the question.

Thanks to all for your replies, time to move one and enjoy Ultimate Edition.

In Software Centre, go to Edit - Software Sources. Under the Updates tab, the bottom box gives you the option to never be advised of a new Ubuntu version.

Select that, and you shouldn't have the problem again.

Cheers

People forget that apt-get install "your package name" from a terminal always works.
I always use it.
