Sound gone after update.

I updated yesterday and have since lost all sound/audio. I cannot connect to either my onboard card or my soundblaster (570) pci. They show in the mixer but hesitate to show a dot in the selection bracket,
about a 10-12 second pause. But no signal to my speakers or headphones. I have reinstalled alsa base, utilities etc to no avail. Has anybody else experienced this?

I may be on the wrong track, but pulse audio has been used for quite a while now.

Check that the sound is muted...there was an issue that sound was muted on boot after install, or was at 0% (but not muted).

Hope this helps.

Hi kiwinsn, thanks for the try but it was the first thing I looked for. After an update it will sometimes reset but not the case this time. I'm sort of between a
beginner and intermediate user. I'm good as long as I don't have to do much in the terminal if anything. I'm thinking of taking a course to help me with that this year.
I might have to take out a few audio programs and try reinstalling them one at a time to find the conflict. I do some audio work and probably added a few. I'll let you
all know when I succeed. thank again.

In a terminal type sudo modprobe snd=your sound card #. See what you get.
