i dont want to go 11.04 base build just yet as i prefer Ultimate Edition by far.

thanks

YES Ultimate Edition 3.0 is based on 11.04. Yes it is near, there are more then just theemahn on it.

Exact release date, sadly I do not know just yet.

Stop judging 11.04 on unity for god sakes.

There is MORE to 11.04 then just unity.

Ya have classic that can be made to look and act exactly like Ultimate Edition 2.9 in every way.

Then ya have Gnome 3, better then unity by 10,000 times over but far from perfect UI. Guess that says little about unity don't it lol.

11.04 and classic with a Ultimate Edition worthy feel UI and software pack.

Just finishing up my 11.04 x64 gnome 3 build. Ill link screen shots when done. Thing about gnome 3 , it is very customizable but no were near as easy to do so as classic. Still worth it, took me about 9 to 10 hours to get 11.04 to Ultimate Edition standards and feel. Took me 2 days to get Gnome 3 to tolerable feel and look.

ANYTHING worth having takes work guys. Facts are 11.04 is still superior to 10.10 in every way, just don't use unity lol. <BREW>

Beware...this pops up on Ultimate Edition 2.9 and Ubuntu 10.10.
Gnome3 or Unity..looks ok....most will revert and or wish for the old style stuff.
Do not upgrade 2.9, you will not be happy with your new wall paper and if it does load most of your Ultimate Edition will be gone.
On that thought, if you do upgrade 10.10 Ubuntu...UPDATE FIRST....there will be less errors...for an Upgrade.

To me Gnome3 and Unity, is like getting a new horse...good to look at..
Rather use the older horse, that has proven it's self. I know what I am doing and it does too.
I don't need a side bar showing me I have a window open when I see it in front of my face....lmao

I just hope that when 3.0 is done we can upgrade 2.9 to it. That way I can get 11.04 without losing my settings. :D I did the upgrade of regular 10.10 to 11.04 and it took a long long time, but once it was done everything ran nicely. All I had to redo was my compiz settings.

I do alot of testing...glad it worked out for you.;)
If you started with 10.10 with the updates installed before you did the upgrade. it does go smooth, just a long time.
Traffic is heavy right now.
Again...do not try the upgrade in 2.9...IT DOES NOT WORK...!!

What about the partial upgrade shows in the UPDATE Manager. Is it ok to do that.

not sure as im in the same spot ref upgrade goes. im staying just where i am with upgrade and im leaving 11.04 far away from my pc. hopefully when 3.0 comes out it will be better than 2.9 and not have the issues 11.04 has. i understand Ultimate Edition is based on the base build but im sure the staff of Ultimate Edition can edit well enough to avoid disappointment as they have done so many times previously.

I did the partial upgrades while doing the install, it all seems fine, You can forget Natty, I didnt think it would do Ultimate Edition any good as Ultimate Edition is full of mods... so the partial upgrades should be fine to do, just DO NOT do a Natty upgrade...

ALSO Unity, has still a lot of ironing out to do, try find a recent document cleaner, and u'll pull ya hair out, plus there are other little things with unity that get under my skin.... tho i like the interface, i think the coding needs to be looked at seriously. Gnome 3 I do like, but its nothing to rave about, most of the goodness is under the hood, but like with anything, when it comes out you wait for the service pack... LOL oops that was a MS joke...

So lesson for the day, a "partial upgrade" will be fine, as Ive done it and it works dreamingly, but DoO NOT UPGRADE TO NATTY they are two different upgrades, so don't confuse yourself... :D mwah !.
Linux needs to invest in Simplicity if it is to stand a chance against Windows.. :D

I like it, I like it, I like it. With some trepidation, backed -up then went for it (64 bit version). One or two tweaks gone (e.g.Compiz settings), but can see I'm able to reinstate. Ultimate Edition branding and features all seem to be retained. Like the new navigation menus. I'm really pleased and now can't wait for Ultimate Edition 3.0 with this backbone.
EDITED TO ADD - Only broken package found so far is Ultamatix. For those who want to upgrade but maintain exactly the same look as 2.9, go to Login Screen, choose Ubuntu Classic and reboot.
Modded Acer Aspire box now with Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 motherboard; AMD FX-6100 6-core CPU; 16gb RAM; 1Tb Seagate SATA HDD; Ultimate Edition 3.5 64bit. Dual booting with Windows7 64bit.
