Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.9

11.04

Postby witblits1970 » Sat Apr 30, 2011 8:11 am

i have just installed 2.9 from scratch and noticed that an upgrade to 11.04 is ready. i know this is based on 10.10 and want to know if 3.0 will be based on 11.04 and if so when will it be released. i understand Theemahn has issues he now needs to deal with and i hope he takes enough time to break away from writing software and deal with more important issues first. ;)
i dont want to go 11.04 base build just yet as i prefer Ultimate Edition by far.

thanks

i too done and got the same message, but i think I'll wait for awhile, this version (2.9) is awesome, I have it along side Oz Unity, in any case, I think upgrade now would not do 2.9 any justice, considering the mods that may have been made to the kernel in this edition... 8-)

I tried upgrading to 11.04 on my spare 32-bit Ultimate Edition. It took about 3 hours on DSL. The new 11.04 doesn't seem to work, because when I logged in, the menu bar was not there so I couldn't check out the new Unity thingy. I was still able to log into Gnome classic. Upgrading does change some things-- I have noticed that it removed some programs like Lemon Rip and Ultamatix, and reconfigured some of your theme settings. Can still change back to the Ultimate Edition themes, however, the Oskar theme doesn't work with Firefox 4.

I'm afraid to upgrade my main 64 bit, so I will just wait for 3.0 Ultimate Edition.

I like the fact that Ultimate Edition OZ has big flashing red lights for this warning so I will try to do it here as well

DO NOT UPGRADE ULTIMATE EDITION TO UBUNTU 11.04! IT WILL BREAK YOUR INSTALL

Seriously there is a lot of subtle tweaks that are in Ultimate Edition that this upgrade will wipe out. ALWAYS do a fresh install of Ultimate Edition

Not just upgrading but installing too.

Installing 11.04 is a waste of time. It is by far the worst incarnation of that OS ever released.
Slow... Annoying to navigate...

If ever Bill Gates wanted to forever squash the hopes of all linux users.. He would have supported 11.04 for everyone to try.
It's as bad as vista or me only missing all the flash and sleekness.

Just pointless.

I was wondering if one should update or not...After reading this it seems a better idea not too. ;)

What about the partial upgrade shows in the UPDATE Manager. Is it ok to do that.

not sure as im in the same spot ref upgrade goes. im staying just where i am with upgrade and im leaving 11.04 far away from my pc. hopefully when 3.0 comes out it will be better than 2.9 and not have the issues 11.04 has. i understand Ultimate Edition is based on the base build but im sure the staff of Ultimate Edition can edit well enough to avoid disappointment as they have done so many times previously.
