Hmmm, sounds like something didn't install all the way! see if you can boot into recovery mode and run "repair packages", and then reboot! If not then try (after you have logged in at the prompt) sudo apt-get install gdm .

I don't wanna reinstall 2.8, and not all the game packages show up in Ultamatix, could someone post links to the debs for the games?

Hello billhedrick, when I rebooted 2.8 gamers with the restricted drivers for Nvidia card I got the UBUNTU 10.10 purple and I followed this thread to get that fixed back to the fancy animated Plymouth;

Though you seem to have a more serious problem, follow JohnnyG advise first then it just might be better to reinstall. You need to have the OS running correctly from the beginning or you will have no end of troubles...

What games are you missing ? have you tried playdeb http://www.playdeb.net/ I am trying to find my link to the repo, as soon as i can dig it up you will have it ! Wait don't you have the live DVD ?

(FacePalm) Yea, the live DVD. I haven't dloaded it yet, but that would be the simplest way! That is when you know how to do it, which I do! I think I will post a "how to" When I do it.

How many games do you see in Ultamatix? I count 48 from ATanks to Yo Frankie, in my "as Installed" version of Ultimate Edition 2.8x64 "Standard" version, not the Gamers version....

Yes thanks! I think my version of 2.8 wasn't quite the finished release, so Ultamatix didn't have all the repositories.
