display resolution 1280x960 problem

Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.8

display resolution 1280x960 problem

Postby miguelsanchez79 » Sat Feb 26, 2011 3:03 pm

Hi there,

Im new to linux and would like to thank you for great distro. I did try ubuntu, kubuntu, mandriva but found ultimate edition to be most entertaining.
However I have got problem with display resolution. Im using latest nvidia drivers (installed via "additional drivers"). The biggest resolution I can get is 1024X768. I would love to have at least 1280x960.
Is there any chance to change it?
I have mandriva 2010 installed on my second disk running 1280x960 without any problems.
Appologise for my english and thanks a lot for any advise.

So is eye candy 3d effects enabled?

Just wondering if the nvidia drivers didn't take.

Also, for nvidia , ya need to use xconfig not display tool to set Rez.

Found in admin section.

Im using nvidia X server settings (installed with drivers) so monitor preferences are disabled. Maximum resolution I can get with System-Preferences-Monitor settings is 800x600.

Eye candy 3d effects are enabled and work like charm. This is my xorg.conf file from nvidia display tool.

Then your monitor is none supported via the nvidia display driver.

Your going to need to find a newer driver.

Try this http://www.webupd8.org/2010/06/how-to-install-nvidia-25635-display.html

I did install driver from above link but nothing really changed. Still same set of resolution options.
Monitor should be fine as in mandriva I can get 1280x1960

Problem solved accidently:)
Last night I wanted to watch movie on my lcd tv. I did set up dual display, watched movie and came back to my lcd monitor. Since then I have more resolution options and fnally can set 1280x960.

I suppose nvidia coudn't recognise my display vendor.

Ya know, I had windows 7 give me this same crap few days back.

Dvi or rgb connection would not run games at native res.

Hdmi worked just fine and opened up more res options.

Guessing it is a driver issue.

Never gamed in Linux, so no problem.

All good HDMI offered better image quality and better sound in Linux and windows 7.
