Few problems need resolution

Postby ADPdirty » Fri Feb 04, 2011 5:24 am

Guys i was wondering if there is a fix for:
Sometimes i would press (i cant trace) by accident some keys and mouse clicks and that will disable primary mouse click.
Solution to restart because i cant logoff or do anything without primary click.
Every restart has something messed up. Icons that were located in tray (compis config manager trash icon etc) would disappear or some will go away.
When computer starts up (before bios screen) sound card would make a very loud click noise (as if it got plugged in and turned on) even with the volume at 0%. Same click when computer goes shutdown but this only happens with Ubuntu and not windows.
Cant Ubuntu power down PCI devices prior to shutting down PC to avoid frying them ?

Right Click scripts dont work (most of them) THose that work are "Terminal Here" All others are not working including simple once that wont even create shortcuts anywhere for anything.

Can someone tell me if there are any fixes on those issues ? and maybe why or how to get those scripts removed if they are not working ? And i dont mean just remove scripts, but whole right click menu so that they wont be there to begin with.

Or maybe there is a right click customizer app ?

Thanks in advance
Hope to hear from anyone soon.

Question to Ubuntu

Postby ADPdirty » Fri Feb 04, 2011 5:51 am

I have a question to Ubuntu or linux (Not sure at this point) :?
I have just clean installed Ubuntu Ultimate Edition 2.8 X64 :D
It comes with 2 Login managing apps (that i wonder why 2 instead of 1 being a part of OS like windows) :?
So i used both to remove early created user from system and now i am ROOT all the time. ;)
Reason why i did this is because i cannot use programming language app called Gambas2
Every time i try to run a project, i get error which is a result of no permissions on project files.
Solution is to get those permissions.
TO do that i have to be ROOT, so to save time adding permissions to my user for all files in "systemfiles" (in case i need them later) i ended up making my self a ROOT.
This was great till i realized allot of applications simply do not work now.

So my question is this.
Linux applications are not made to run under ROOT but Users with restrictions ? Is that how it works ? :?:
Most apps wont even launch now. :x

Typically, on most Unix/Linux systems, you should avoid being root as much as possible. The root user has unlimited access to the file system (as you've discovered), and with that power comes the ability to cause unintended damage to the system.
When you first install Ultimate Edition, you are prompted to create a user. That user is part of the Admin group, and capable of temporarily assuming root privileges through use of the sudo command in Terminal or "Browse as Root" script in Nautilus. Using this method of assuming root privileges is safer, as when you are finished you become a regular user again and are not able to make changes that only the super user can make.
As for your specific problem, I suspect it may be safer to take ownership of your project files rather than to be root all the time. You will also have less trouble with other applications. Perhaps one of our more experienced users can offer more specific help to get you on the right track.

Greetings

Every problem listed, is unique to say the least.

Thus, it is just your approach.

Let's get you started with Ultimate Edition 2.8 right first.

What we need to do is get it freshly installed , updated then configured and customized to fit your needs first.

If after install and full update, if you see oddities in the hardware. We will then look at options to resolve these. Or perhaps another release to coincide with your hardware configuration more adequately.

So, let's start there, install fresh. Fully update with all sources on.

Then report back so we can help you configure to fit your needs. Then we tackle the more advanced stuff, ok.

682 MB or updates total wow.
Is there a recent version of DVD i can download instead of going through update process which is never safe to begin with ?
From my experience, updating anything never reads to good things.
Windows 7 64bit Fresh install and Update at first start up will give you problems you never heard of. Ubuntu update gave me Black screen and ton of boot errors last time i tried updating. But hey you say i need and i shall obey.
Problem is: More i customize ubuntu, more i update the more harder it will be for me to reinstall it when it fails update or something just wont work.

I was surprised Sound control panel didnt work when i was logged in as Root and so other stuff. Why those things dont work ? IF they did, i would not post this question at all knowing that i finally got control over my computer except that nothing is working when in control.

Ok so i closed that ERROR window and restarted computer after update.
so here is what i have now
PinkScreen.jpg

Its telling me to press "S" but i've been sitting on my "S" all morning pressing down on it with my weight and still nothing.
I cant press anything because keyboard is not responding or seems to be not powered on or ubuntu ignores it being plugged in.
I've seen it before and i know its not reading one of my 5 NTFS HDD's for some reasons. What ever the reason is i am not willing to unplug HDD in order to boot to OS. Legacy USB is enable in BIOS so i dont understand why it wont work.

Besides there were a ton of other errors:
Before i even got to this screen, it was blinking "_ _ _ _ _ _" for longer then usual. Usualy its 2 or 3 blinks and then it loads the OS, this time it was like 50 blinks.
ALso a ton of other boot errors showed up after (still before this pink screen) with some very familiar messages
FAILED FAILED FAILED
Bunch of failed errors but i learned one thing:
Updates never fail to show you the message "FAILED"

Is there a DVD release with all those updates implemented ?
(I thank Bill Gates windows exist so i could reply and even upload my photo from phone which would be very complicated task in linux)

Thanks in advance, i hope there is a DVD out there.

its Ultimate Edition 2.8 64bit downloaded from ultimateedition website
What more info you might want ?

Reburn DVD and reinstall OS ? Thats what i am getting sick of doing. I wish there was some way to backup whole ubuntu installation and restore it in case there are problems, but as of right now i trieed every backup app there was and they all suck and dont work and do not restore everything.
Acronis offering bootable CD called Backup and Recovery 10. I have one for windows and it saves whole HDD image (not sector by sector) and stores it anywhere i want. I can then restore it to any HDD or do what ever right from that bootable CD. They have version for linux, but i dont think its worth the money for linux if it cant even update its self without crashing into something on the way.
