Virus/Malware protection in Ubuntu?

Now that I started using Ubuntu Ultimate Edition permanently I wonder if there is a Virus/Malware protection in Ubuntu? On Windows I'm using Avast Anti-Virus.

If there is one is it active by default?

Not needed , ever.

There is clam av built in. But I have never needed it. Find it in applications/accessories .

There is only one way possible to infect Linux.

Install a infected untrusted source via root account or root password.

It is physically impossible to infect Linux using a admin account and browsing the web or opening an email.

A firewall is still recommended , use the built in firestarter.

I can go into detail, but Linux is not limited like windows. Linux security is second to none.

wrong, I didn't say some one couldn't hack in via your IP. Any hack with a PC can do this if you leave your back doors open.

Doubt they could do much unless they figure out root access password thou.

But they sure as hell could hack in and look at data not encrypted.

Virus or malware and a port ip hack are NOT the same thing.

Virus is designed to ether gather and report info or utterly destroy a PC.

Malware do lot of the same things as a virus but have added droppers to them that infest a PC like cockroaches.

The ONLY way this happens to linux is if YOU DO IT.

Unless a hacker had your sudo password he also could not upload a virus to your pc.

Windows, all ya have to do is use a admin account and your royally screwed. Virus can install and not even tell ya.

However, firestarter firewall command line runs 24/7 right off the bat, hacking into linux takes a lot of knowhow.
