When you changed the HD jumper to Master , did you set the CD/DVD jumper to Slave? I assume the drives are ATA/IDE and NOT SATA-II, right?
If this is still a problem, you could try putting the HD on the Primary IDE controller and set it as Master, then put the CD.DVD on the Secondary controller and set it as Master also. Let me know if this helps, or if you've already tried this....
BTW: I just checked the Seagate web site for your drive's specifics, and I find that this drive has jumpers for "Master" (single drive on the controller) setting AND a "Master with Slave" (the controller has two drives on it's cable). When you set this drive as the Master with a slave drive present, you may need to use the jumpers
5-6 AND 7-8.
