Postby linuxfreack » Tue Dec 21, 2010 8:46 am

Hi,

I went to the store and i buy the Sammy's new DVD for my kids,
Full self-confident i puth it in to my laptop and wanted to make backup in xvid.
But to my surprises the DVD wont be rip't not with Acidrip not with DVD::rip not with K9copy enz;
nothing works i have libdvdread installed i can play the DVD with no problems.
So i google for hour's and did dent find e solution (yes i found one that even work't but it took me to windows and hate that);
Now i think this is the latest way to secure there DVD's against copy.
But the Xwin program in windows cane do this so ubuntu can do this to buth how??????
<BREW>
looking forward to suggestions.

PS: the linux programs just hang's it can't even read the table of contents.

its probably encrypted
Code: Select all
sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update

then
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2

hope it works

Yes I now I installed libdvdcss2 and also libdvdread4.sh
Now in the prinscreens you can see the DVD::rip error after long time it say's that there is no DVD.
Acidrip just hang's.
You can see also that the movie is playing.

Very strange.
Eny other idee's.
Thanks for you post.

Also if you can see in printscreen3 my conky how my CPU and RAM are overloaded then i think something is not good.
thit enyone here about new way that DVD's are protected against copie.

I see this from time to time.

A few DVD,s have copy write protection on it so ubber that there is just no way around it.

The only I have found is to play it threw a TV tuner card and record it that way.

If it was me I would look for a digital copy.

I now it will be much faster.

but i don't like the idea that i can do this with winx in windows and i cant do this on my linux machine.

Te procedure was as followed play dvd see witch tittle it plays after al your selections (lang, sub,) than open winx and choose that tittle and rip it and it works.
Now i want to now way my linux programs can not read the table of contents and winx can.

(i tested e few other programs in win and this one was the only one that good do it)
I also tried it with WINE but no luck.

I cant stand the idea linux cant and windows can Grrrrrrrrrrrr

and Hawks-SOAD I tried it on my desktop and my laptop the same thing happens.

Greetz, and thanks for your post's <BREW> linux forever

I use magic dvd ripper for windows my self and for the most part. What few could not be ripped in linux could also not be ripped in windows.

If your telling me that you tried it in windows with this same disk and it ripped, well then I am impressed.

Reckon anything is possible but not likely.

Now, if you are telling me it does it with ALL disks, then I am going to tell ya it is hardware related.

Because I for one can rip 99.9% of all DVD,s flawless in linux using acid rip.

Now, hardware related problems are commonly a kernel issue , lack of proper support for hardware being used.

Or your drive is on it,s way out.

So, what is it to be. Have you tried this same disk in windows and it worked ?

I did some research on this for you.

Best I can do is give ya more options to try.

Code: Select all
ppa:stebbins/handbrake-snapshots

add this ppa then install handbrake threw ubuntu software center.

More to come.

I am going to try this handbrake my self, but from what I read. It comes highly recommended.

Known to rip copy written DVD,s.

Ok so I have started a rip using handbrake, ETA for full rip is around 19 min.

I will report back and let ya know how she went.

As you can see, it is well coded and uses 6 cores very even.

Ok so rip finished flawless in 15.4 min, but I need to work on quality just a tad.

I selected it for 1 GB in size and I would give it a 8 video 9 audio in quality.

other then that , program looks to work well.

FYI - use the high preset and you end up with a 1.4 GB movie but it is flawless 10 audio/10 video.

Only down side I see to this one is no AVI option. Xvid AVI comes in handy for xvid players.

Not much of a down side thou, most xvid players support h.264 these days.

Oke here is my situation
tested it on my HP DV7 4gb 2.1 dual core. dual boot win7/UE2.7
First 2 screenshot win7 with winx he see full table contents in seconds and rips it.
The 3 screenshot is from ultimate edition 2.7 acidrip but it hangs (not 2.8 like to switch from time to time gnome to kde), same thin for dvd::rip only he says that he can not read table of contents.
The 4 and 5 acidrip with other DVD The collector works perfect.

Now i have ript wit acidrip and ddv::rip for many times without any trouble that's way i post this because it is very bizar.
Now on my desktop acid rip coms up with table of content but unable to rip any of them.
I even tried to make iso with k3b and than shrink it with K9copy but no success.

this is not normal it will keep me op at night.
I will test handbrake also tanks for the tip. :P

have e grate night. <BREW>

little update handbrake is working for the moment and at first look everything is looking good :P
keep you up to date.
And Gúrú Linux ríomhaire dit you test the OS made by or Australian friends already OZunity1.0_debut https://sourceforge.net/projects/ueoz/f ... o/download it is not bad not bad at all.
See screenshot 5
update handbrake work't not good language but for the rest very good picture quality.
Thanks e budel i will sleep tonight.
