Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.8

Loading Live usb problem

Postby wolf3491 » Mon Oct 25, 2010 11:52 pm

Hello all!

I have not used Ultimate Edition since 2.0, and decided to put the newest x64 version on a newish desktop. MD5 checks out, used unetbootin to load onto a 4gig usb stick. When I try to Ultimate Edition, I get a nice blue horizon and Ultimate edition 2.8, then my screen changes to a nice black and white checkerboard like patter. Then I hear some sound from my speakers and that's that, it stay like that.

Possibly useful specs:
Amd Phenom II x4
Nvidia GT240
8gb ram

I don't really want to pull the 240 out to try and install, and I have seen mention of a safe mode but I don't seem to have that option. Thanks in advance if anybody has an idea!

Thanks for your response!

I tried the pendrive program with a different drive which resulted with the same problem. Also, I have noticed that after trying, if I go into windows one of two things happens: before I can login windows preforms a chkdisk or my graphics card is hot (ok, 45C, but higher than idle or regular boot). Anything else I can try short of taking the card out?

edit for information's sake:
They boot fine on my laptop, the only difference is I don't get the fancy boot image on my laptop, but at the point where the desktop is displayed is when my problem computer goes berserk.

i can't check atm someone borrowed my usb but i believe when you load up the usb on the first splash screen where it says , try ultimate edition , install ultimate edition etc , look at the bottom it should say boot options then a button to press like f7 i think that is where you choose to boot in safe mode

good luck

I feel really dense, I cannot for the life of me find that. I get a screen to try without installing, etc, and I press tab for more options, which just lets me edit the boot options. The only option I could find related to safe graphics mode is xforcevesa, which dropped me to command line after the boot up image. startx throws no screens found, and I am a novice at editing xorg.config. If I could somehow run the installer from the command prompt and manage to not wreck my windows partition I'd do it, but I have no clue how to proceed from here.

edit: After Some research, I found this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1600807
That is the same card I have, and I know it is not TheeMahns job to fix ubuntu issues, so I guess this can be closed.

My monitor is VGA, it is the only port on the card I have used.
