Yep, download and install virtualbox.

Install 2.8 in Vbox , hope you have virtual support on your CPU/bios or it might be a bit slow.

Use do do that my self. Win 7 then vbox ultimate edition.

better to dual boot the two os's. 1 for all around use ( ultimate edition) and win 7 for games and must haves for windows based software.

Further you get away from windows , the better.

recommend to NOT use windows for Internet under any condition.

Or if you don't game, then 2.8 Ultimate Edition as main OS and vbox win 7.

I show your CPU does support Intel V. Question is, does your bios allow it to be switched on ?

Some bios do not.

Yes, vbox is a bit faster then VMware from what I have seen first hand.

hi,
you were right, the Asus A7Sv is VT-x capable but I looked everywhere for updated bios that might allow
virtualization but I didn't find anything and the current bios (302)does not allow virtualization.
Do you know of anyway to go around this lack?

thanks
rick

Sadly, Intel V has to be enabled on a bios level.

There is no way to force bios to enable via a OS or dos.

some one very smart would have to mod the bios.

xp 1 GB minimal x32 or 3 GB minimal x64

vista/win 7 1.2 GB minimal x32 3 GB minimal x64.

that is the minimal specs if win xp SP2 SP3 is installed

yes 512 MB is to little for even xp, windows likes LOTS of ram.

I have NEVER yet seen errors out of Vbox. What errors are you seeing ? If Intel v is off them V needs to be off in settings to.

Thanks for the patience pc-trends
I hate to bother you for this but can you tell me how to properly set up a virtualized Ultimate Edition
with either software, I tried several times but it either is so slow to start or doesnot install at all.
thanks again

slowness would come from hardware limitations and lack of V support.

To install with vbox if Intel V is supported but not on. You need to turn V off in vbox settings.

If V is on, select ALL available cores and IO cache on in Vbox settings.

This is where performance starts to show.
