Hi everyone!
I bought an hp notebook.its a hp pavilion dv6, intel core i5,4Gb ram,500gb hard disk,ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650,Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD...
i was using linux ultimate edition 2.5 in my old pc, dual booted with xp...i tried many taste of linux...
i tried linux UE2.8 alpha 64bit...it was wonderful!i was amazed by the difference in graphics that the already installed windows7 was giving...however, when i tried to install the os,the only two options of installing it was by either using the entire disk,or to do it manually!this is very hard thing for me...very risky too...also the guaranty thing may come to an end if im installing this...thats why, instead of just doing this by myself..im seeking your help friends!
as seen in the picture,by default, my hard disk has 3 partitions..i will have to make ultimate dual boot with win7 home premium..please help me...if possible, warn me about the cons of installing ultimate edition,if there are...for instance the usual ATI graphic problems!does linux have the graphic switching thing for example,to save batery life...i guess it has,as 1 once crashed ultimate edition 2.3 on my old pc by installing ATI catalyst...i just want to make the most of my notebook!instead of buying the $999 macbook,i bought this one...i just wanted to do thing a little differently, and get a tool even better than a mac,and cost less...as long as i have your support friends, i will strive to make it true..i thank you all in advanced!

Hello, You are correct in that 2.8 is a beta version, stay away from that. 2.7 has several other window managers in addition to Gnome. I am using 2.6 Gamers on all of my computers, it is only Gnome based which is the window manager I like the best. It has been very stable and easy to dual boot with Windows 7. Please check over the 2.6 and 2.6 gamers forum threads. You will want to do the cursor fix, I suppose. Your laptop is similar to the one that we are looking at for a nephew to play the new StarCraft II game with. If I may ask what is the Windows Experience rating of that computer? If my memory is correct Ultimate Edition 2.6/2.7 should not have any problem with the ATI as Thee Mahn's computer is ATI based, however I only have Nvidia cards and can not personally say/guarantee that. If you would have any issues there are people here all over the world to help out. I have to get ready to go to work, so hopefully someone else can help with any other questions. Take care and enjoy the Ultimate Edition!

just a question, is 2.6 more stable than 2.7, or its just a question of taste? And if i've already downloaded the 32 bit version, should i re download the 64 bit,or just install the 32 bit and do an update?

Hello yogesh193001.

And if i've already downloaded the 32 bit version, should i re download the 64 bit,or just install the 32 bit and do an update?

That Di pence on your Architecture of your Board machine.

is 2.6 more stable than 2.7

I can't say that 2.6 is more stable then 2.7,the Kernel of 2.7 is higher and it has new updates that come with it.
You have to think that every new system is going foreword and not backward.
So it is question of your hardware that you have with your Board & needz.
If you look for the Gamers system (2.6) that will give you some more options with games, software and so on.
If you look on the 2.7 that come with less Games and it is the Released U.E System.
If you want to add Games you can do in with software that in cloud in the System.
