XFS Filesystem

Postby Micro » Wed Dec 05, 2012 11:51 pm

It took awhile but i finally converted four storage devices to XFS. These drives mainly hold media consisting of movies and shows. Wnated to wait till the filesystem became more robust. I've had good experiences so far and some noticable write speed increase right around 5%. Also gained a tremendous amount of space as XFS only consumed 10mb of my 2TB drive. No more loosing 100's of gigs for larger disks from formatting. Just simply formatted with gparted after adding a new package.
Code: Select all
apt-get install xfsprogs

Wonder if anyone else has played around with XFS at all?

I tested the data loss complaints after power outtages. Also formatted two external devices and tested. So far no data loss or corruption on any drives. Repeatedly unsafely removed and unplugged my server a few times. I have to say I'm going to stick with XFS on my media storage for now. ZFS remain on my NAS and stilling running great. Gained over 300 GB on my storage and i am utterly impressed with the performance on large files. XFS is starting to look like a keeper so far...
