first adding the entry to the sources list for the repos:

sudo apt-get install '^liquorix-([^-]+-)?keyring.?'
check the repos:
- Code: Select all
sudo apt-cache search liquorix
.........all the different kernels will be show.........as of late 3.6.0 is the latest and newest one. If the above command does not show anything then reboot.
NOTE: THE LIQUORIX KERNELS ARE BEING UPDATED AND MAINTAINED. PLEASE CHECK THE LATEST KERNEL BY RUNNING THE ABOVE COMMAND AND ANY PREVIOUS VERSIONS INCLUDING THE ONE MENTIONED BELOW WILL NOT GET INSTALLED!!! ENTER THE CORRECT KERNEL WHICH THE ABOVE COMMAND WILL SHOW
The new liquorix kernel requires gcc 4.7 as its dependency..............install it:
- Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test
- Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update
- Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install gcc-4.7
Next install linux-headers and linux-image using:
- Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.6.0-6.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64 linux-image-3.6.0-6.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64
THis is the liquorix kernel that will get successfully installed.....
Done......just reboot to the new kernel.
Amazingly enough this liquorix kernel is more stable than the default kernel packed with Ubuntu 12.04 and kernel 3.6.6!!((but credit must also goto GCC4.7). This kernel integrates the BFS(brain @$#! scheduler) and those who know what it is and its benefits will know this is the best thing money cant buy......built by another aussie Con Kolivas. Strangely enough he also developed the fair scheduling and the algorithms upon which CFS (Completely Fair Scheduler) was built and now formally inducted and a de-facto standard for linux kernels.
Those facing Nvidia 550ti startup problems and other radeon problems can try this..........as this is not only stable but causes the least compiz(but WHO cares for compiz!!) crashes..
Note: for all you 32-bit lovers there is a 32 bit available in the repos.
