This looks pretty simple Adam. I assume once you get Gnome to that pure state, you can get the effects you may want by using Compiz. Or at least getting the effects from the software center. I was just wondering because I like the wiggly windows and the awesome 3D desktop chooser.

Creating a PURE gnome 3.2 classic UI

Original post by pclinuxguru
So many ways posted on line. Most are not a pure way.

First lets get the basics installed in 11.10 base.

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback

Ok now we have the basics lets get the needed parts to make it a worthy UI

Open up synaptic package manager and lets install

gnome-system-tools

gnome-themes all 3 packs

gnome-icons - all 3 packs

gnome-tweak-tool

ok so now lets make it pure classic

using synaptic completely remove
Code: Select all
gnome-session

ONLY remove that one, the others are needed.

restart and load to classic, now lets loose the unity

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get remove unity unity-2d-places unity-2d unity-2d-panel unity-2d-spread unity-asset-pool unity-services unity-lens-files unity-lens-music unity-lens-applications gir1.2-unity-4.0 unity-common indicator-sound indicator-power indicator-appmenu libindicator6 indicator-application evolution-indicator indicator-datetime indicator-messages libnux-1.0-0

ok restart and now all that remains is classic and classic no effects and your done. Pure gnome 3.2 classic UI.
