I thought I would post my thoughts on Ubuntuzilla. Just a forewarning to anyone who wants to use this to upgrading to 3.5 as opposed to enabling the firefox development repository in Ubuntu Tweak. Whenever you use Ubuntuzilla on a 64bit linux install you seem to be installing a 32bit firefox. Notice how Blackwolf's screen shot says "Linux i686 (x86_64)". i686 is a tag for x86. This is saying that he is running a x86 build of firefox on a x64 linux kernel.
Correct me if I am wrong about any of this but this has what has turned me away from Ubuntuzilla countless times. Yes indeed there is a x64 deb for Ubuntuzilla. However, it always seems to grab the i686 package of firefox as opposed to the proper x86_64 build. Notice this when you run Ubuntuzilla in the terminal to fetch firefox. It downloads a file with i686 in the build tag. I will provide a screen shot of my firefox about window to further support my statements. I oppose using firefox 3.5 myself as I don't consider it stable enough for mainstream use yet. So the screen shot will feature firefox 3.0.12. Notice the line in question here:
- Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.12)
I have tried the Ubuntu Tweak repo and installed firefox 3.5 from that and if memory serves me right I didn't have the i686 in my build tag. In fact, I'd personally recommend the repo rather than UbuntuZIlla because not only because of the builds but the repo's get updates on the fly and they are maintained by Mozilla as far as I know. Just my thoughts, I usually don't post my opinions but I hope it will help people out.
