Thats great news nick. Every since i moved over to amd64 i have been looking for a av-scanner just to be safe. Dont wanna send anything harmful to my friends. I used to use avast when i was on i386. But they have not amd64 packages. Although some say you can use the -force-archatecture switch to make it work its never done the trick for me and i think that is a very dirty "hack" anyway.

Ill have to give bit defender a try though. Used to use they're full suite on windows.

Anymore I view Windows itself as a virus. True we could use bitdefendor to protect our fellow computer patrons of the Microsoft world but lets be honest. They don't stand a chance anyways. We would just be prolonging the inevatable. All we can do is sit back in disbelief as their systems are constantly assaulted with toolbars, search engine takeovers, and the daily signing away of personal rights through end user agreements. I have Windows, don't get me wrong. Some of the tools are simply wonderful. I reccomend everyone have a copy of XP on hand for drive recovery with the format option. True it is NTFS but any live distro can take care of that rather quickly. Sorry. I guess I'm saying that Windows users should be fully prepared to reinstall at a moments notice. It sucks that much. Why bother our systems with invasive virus scanners?

And now, the completely true facts, as told by an anonymous man hiding behind a screen name:

Hi,

I am not really clear on what you are saying here, are you saying we shouldn't install an AV app in either Windows or Linux??, Windows wouldn't last 10 minutes without an active scanner AV app, Linux fares much better but when swopping files with Windows, you should still have an AV app available.

If you want a good app for both Windows and Linux, download the daily build of the Avira Rescue CD which is based on Linux and is a great tool:

I had Avira before and had Daily viruses. I use only Avast anti virus and Comodo firewall now for Windows. I turn off the crap MS firewall. It really stinks.
