Bitdfnder is a great company and this scanner looks good. It cant hurt if you have a dual boot with windows and even have a folder with windows software. But i have to agree that no matter what virus protection or anti spyware you use, it will not make a difference as time goes bye and new exploits come out. I dont care what is running. I work in a federal organization and we manage the DOD Norton, HBSS with the EPO plugin. And it's still not 100% secure. So lets not fool ourselves. lol

Oh no no no, if you have windows you need an antivirus. Unfortunately many antivirus programs are constantly detecting threats that are simply not there, while letting in real threats since they can"t possibly adapt quick enough. Half the time I try to fix someones computer it is the antivirus programs installed that are breaking it. I realise this is usually from having multiple antivrus programs but they honestly tried to get rid of them most of the time. They just won't go away!! Especially Norton and Mcafee. Avira works very well at taking over your search engine, not so great with viruses. Do not get me wrong, I am always on the lookout for a good windows antivirus. The best one I found recently was when I deleted my Dual booted Windows 7 shared on one of my drives with Ultimate Edition 3.4 and replaced it with Ultimate Edition 3.5. ;p

Hi,

the problem with Avira is that is has a normal user mode and an expert mode, if you leave it in normal mode; only half of its functions are available, switching to expert mode has many more options (the rescue CD is different again!) and I have used Avira for many years without problems, this not to say that something could be wrong or indeed it is better or worse than the other AV app's that are available.
